Call for Proposals:
America 250 & Florida Digital Humanities: Local, National, & International Connections
Florida Digital Humanities Consortium 2026 Conference
Date: Friday, October 30, 2026
Location: University of South Florida St. Petersburg
Sponsors: Florida Digital Humanities Consortium (FLDH), Florida Humanities Council
The Florida Digital Humanities Consortium invites scholars, researchers, educators, technologists, cultural practitioners, and public historians to submit proposals for papers, panels, roundtables, workshops, and poster presentations that explore how digital tools and innovative practices are reshaping the humanities and expanding public engagement.
This year’s conference foregrounds the role of digital humanities in gathering, curating, interpreting, preserving, and sharing the humanities for diverse audiences. We seek contributions that demonstrate emerging methodologies, practices, platforms, and tools, that help bring history, literature, culture, ethics, and lived experience into the public sphere in meaningful and accessible ways.
Thematic Focus
In alignment with the national commemoration of America 250<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ffloridahumanities.org%2Famerica-250-everlasting-florida%2F&data=05%7C02%7Cfla-facrl%40lists.fsu.edu%7C5f3b3f6529684ad08fe008de63408b05%7Ca36450ebdb0642a78d1b026719f701e3%7C0%7C0%7C639057326018437242%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=lkTq0uKqcsLNmPuVD9WVbseJ8O%2B%2BTamEwiwSGLkQiNg%3D&reserved=0>, proposals that examine Florida’s role in the American story—past, present, and future—are especially encouraged. Submissions may address Florida’s local histories, Indigenous and diasporic narratives, environmental humanities, cultural memory, migration, civic identity, or regional expressions of the American experiment.
While America 250 is a preferred theme, broader Florida-based humanities topics and digital humanities projects not explicitly tied to the anniversary are also welcome.
Topics of Interest Include (but are not limited to):
* Digital tools for advanced preservation and conservation
* Innovations in audience development and community engagement
* Interactive platforms and participatory humanities
* Real-time engagement and feedback in public humanities projects
* Virtual and immersive education (AR/VR, online exhibitions, digital classrooms)
* Ethical frameworks and public understanding of the values and limits of AI
* Digital storytelling, mapping, and visualization
* Oral history, archives, and community-centered data practices
* Accessibility, inclusion, and equity in digital humanities design
Submission Formats
* Paper Presentations (15 minutes)
* Workshops or Panels or Roundtables (60 minutes, interactive, skill-based, or project-focused)
* Poster Presentations (research, works-in-progress, or community collaborations)
Submissions should clearly articulate the humanities question or insight, the digital tool or method employed, and the public impact or pedagogical value of the work.
Audience
The conference brings together academics, cultural institutions, libraries, museums, educators, technologists, students, and community partners. Proposals that emphasize cross-sector collaboration and public accessibility are strongly encouraged.
