Open Scholarship Librarian
Florida International University Libraries seeks an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and innovative individual to serve as Open Scholarship Librarian. The Open Scholarship Librarian, as part of the FIU Libraries learning and research services, plays a vital role in fostering collaboration, supporting open scholarship, and championing innovative ideas that enhance the accessibility and impact of research and educational materials. This position combines responsibilities in scholarly communications, open access, copyright, research impact, and digital learning resources, ensuring broad support for faculty, students, and researchers. The Open Scholarship Librarian leads efforts to support open access initiatives, intake and coordination of institutional repository content, promote open educational and library-provided course material adoption, and provide expertise on copyright, licensing, and digital publishing. They will work closely with University partners to expand affordable learning initiatives, research visibility, and digital scholarship services.
As members of a large public university library supporting the research of a Carnegie R1 research institution, FIU Libraries librarians provide services in support of the instructional and research activities of students, faculty, staff, and administration of the University. Successful candidates will possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team with a flexible and adaptable attitude.  Responsibilities
 Scholarly Communications & Open Access

  *   Develop and coordinate scholarly communications outreach initiatives for faculty and students across disciplines.
  *   Provide consultations on copyright, author rights, fair use, and licensing, including Creative Commons and open licensing policies.
  *   Promote open access publishing and research impact strategies, including bibliometrics and altmetrics.
  *   Encourage contributions to the institutional repository and collaborate on repository policy development.

Open Educational Resources (OER) & Affordable Learning Initiatives

  *   Lead efforts to promote, develop, and implement OER initiatives, supporting faculty in adopting and creating open and affordable course materials.
  *   Collaborate with university partners (e.g., FIU Online, Center for the Advancement of Teaching, and Textbook Affordability Task Force) to expand textbook affordability programs.
  *   Provide faculty workshops and consultations on OER, including copyright, licensing, and integrating open educational materials into the curriculum.
  *   Develop and maintain web content and instructional materials related to OER, including research guides, video tutorials, and digital learning objects.
  *   Assess and report on the impact of OER initiatives on student success and institutional affordability goals.

Instruction & Research Support

  *   Develop and deliver instruction sessions, workshops, and learning materials.
  *   Support faculty and librarians in integrating information literacy, research impact tools, and scholarly communication topics into instruction.
  *   Assess and evaluate instructional efforts, using data to improve teaching strategies and engagement.

Library & Institutional Services

  *   Explores new and emerging methods and technologies in the provision of library services, focusing on those related to open scholarship and associated activities. Participates in continuing education, conference, workshops, seminars, or other activities that enhance professional knowledge.
  *   Contributes to the profession through active participation in professional associations, research, or other scholarly activities.
  *   Supervises students and/or staff.
  *   Other duties as assigned or directed to fulfill the mission and strategic goals of the University and University Libraries.   

Minimum Qualifications

  *   A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program.
  *   Experience with scholarly publishing, open access, and institutional repositories.
  *   Experience in library instruction and workshop development, with knowledge of instructional technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  *   Familiarity with copyright law, fair use, and Creative Commons licensing.
  *   3–5 years of professional experience in an academic library, particularly in scholarly communications, open access, or OER advocacy.
  *   Knowledge of emerging trends in scholarly publishing and digital preservation.
  *   Experience with metadata standards, digital asset management, and repository platforms.
  *   Familiarity with assessment strategies for measuring research impact and instructional effectiveness.
  *   Experience in promoting library publishing services and open research initiatives.
  *   Experience collaborating and working with teams.
  *   Record of scholarly and professional activity illustrating a desire to advance the profession.
  *   Evidence of leadership and management skills.
  *   Foreign language fluency (any language welcome).
