The Opportunity:
The Associate Dean of Learning and Research at the FIU Libraries will play a pivotal role in supporting the administrative functions of the Dean, providing leadership in the areas of faculty reviews, service innovation, and strategic library development. This role is integral to driving the library's transformation to meet the institution's goal of becoming a top 30 university by 2030.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with leadership across the university's library system-including the Assistant Dean of Strategic Initiatives, the Associate Dean of the Law School Library, and the Associate Dean of the Medical School Library-fostering new and improved cross-library collaborations. The Associate Dean will also lead efforts to reimagine services for students, faculty, and researchers, ensuring the library remains a hub of innovation in a rapidly evolving academic environment. This is an open rank librarian position with administrative responsibilities as Associate Dean.
Key Responsibilities
* Faculty Leadership & Development:
* Conduct annual performance reviews for approximately 30 faculty librarians, providing constructive feedback and supporting their professional development.
* Promote a culture of continuous improvement and academic excellence among library faculty.
* Service Innovation & Strategic Planning:
* Imagine and implement new services for students, faculty, and researchers that align with evolving academic needs and support institutional priorities.
* Lead initiatives that enhance the library's role in advancing research and learning, ensuring alignment with the university's 2030 strategic goal of becoming a top 30 institution.
* Library Transformation:
* Spearhead the transition of the library toward a forward-thinking, user-centric organization, adapting to the changing needs of the academic community.
* Collaborate with library leadership to build the library of the future, leveraging technology and innovation to enhance services.
* Cross-Institutional Collaboration:
* Work closely with the Assistant Dean of Strategic Initiatives and other library leaders to strengthen relationships and foster collaboration between the main library and specialized libraries (e.g., law, medical).
* Explore and develop opportunities for partnership with other academic and research libraries to share resources and enhance library services.
Qualifications:
* Master's degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
* Proven experience in an academic library setting, preferably in a leadership or administrative role.
* Strong track record of working collaboratively across departments, divisions, or institutions.
* Experience conducting faculty performance reviews and promoting faculty development.
* Demonstrated ability to lead innovation in library services, including the integration of new technologies and resources to meet the needs of a diverse academic community.
* Exceptional communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience working with strategic planning initiatives within an academic or research institution.
* Knowledge of emerging trends in academic libraries, particularly related to digital scholarship, research support, and student success.
* Demonstrated success in fostering partnerships and collaborative initiatives across institutional boundaries.
