We still hope to see you on Zoom, but we realize attendance may be down this year. We plan to record all sessions so you may be able to catch up later. I am also in Lee County and seeing my community come together to help each other is amazing despite the long road to recovery. Many of our library colleagues are deployed with FEMA, helping supply distribution sites, and opening up their homes for childcare and shelter. Please know we are thinking of you. Rules are how state agencies implement legislation after it's passed. * How do these rules affect me? In addition to creating a climate of fear and hate for K-12 teachers, parents, children, and Black/LGBTQ+ Floridians, they also create an anti-learning, anti-inquiry climate that make our mission of encouraging intellectual freedom and the basic dignity of all patrons more challenging. * What can I do? If you can make the meeting in person, that would be ideal. If you can't, click any of the proposed rules above to make public comment by the deadline. Public comment is the process where stakeholders weigh in on proposed rules. * What should I say? Anything that, in your judgment, adds credibility to your statement. For example, in my comment about library materials, I mention the important role that libraries play in fostering intellectual inquiry, fomenting critical thinking, and creating K-12 graduates who are bright, open-minded, and well-trained for higher education and future employment. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
