The State of Data Services in Academic Libraries in Florida

The Florida Chapter of ACRL (FACRL<https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://facrl.org/__;!!PhOWcWs!kAuP5RWpwHYRTakDToY9D32n6K4TX98PB6hubVd10M_EBrtUGOcGEgZxxJNCWMbfmk8uvQ$ >) is working in conjunction with the Florida Library Association (FLA) to offer the first ever FACRL/FLA Pre-Conference session. The FACRL/FLA Pre-Conference Program Committee invites proposals for the 2020 FLA Annual Conference<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.flalib.org/2020-fla-annual-conference__;!!PhOWcWs!kAuP5RWpwHYRTakDToY9D32n6K4TX98PB6hubVd10M_EBrtUGOcGEgZxxJNCWMaM9KOTnA$ > exploring the theme "The State of Data Services in Academic Libraries in Florida." The pre-conference will be held on Tuesday, May 12, at DoubleTree by Hilton at the Entrance of Universal Orlando <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.flalib.org/2020-conference-hotel__;!!PhOWcWs!kAuP5RWpwHYRTakDToY9D32n6K4TX98PB6hubVd10M_EBrtUGOcGEgZxxJNCWMYcsy1KKA$ > in Orlando, Florida.

Successful proposals will share practical, creative examples and approaches on the development and implementation of data services at their institutions, that advocates for equity across all levels in the academic library. From small pilot projects to campus-wide initiatives, we are interested in how libraries are engaging in campus conversations and creating new practices in areas of data programs and activities at their institutions.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  *   Data software and analysis
  *   Data visualization
  *   Learning analytics
  *   Data tools
  *   Data services

Panel proposals from individuals or groups are welcome. We also invite break out session submissions in which speakers will share different hands on workshop tools to be split into two break out areas.

Presentations and panels will be 1 hour and 15 minutes long, including Q&A.

Submission Information

Please submit your proposal through the online submission form<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://forms.gle/5B6wGUczk4jiQ7kc8__;!!PhOWcWs!kAuP5RWpwHYRTakDToY9D32n6K4TX98PB6hubVd10M_EBrtUGOcGEgZxxJNCWMYJ86gJfQ$ > by March 4th, 2020. The lead presenter will receive an automated email confirming receipt of the submission and will be the person notified if the proposal has been accepted.

All proposals must include the following:

  *   Session title
  *   Session description (approximately 250 words)
  *   Learning objectives
  *   Presenter(s) contact information

Proposal Timeline

  *   Deadline for submissions: Thursday, March 4th, 2020
  *   Notification of acceptance: Wednesday, March 11th, 2020
  *   If accepted, confirm you will present by: Friday, March 20th, 2020

Criteria for Acceptance

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  *   Familiarity with data service tools
  *   Practical data service knowledge to share
  *   Relevant learning objectives

Additional Information for Presenters:

  *   Presenters will be responsible for registering for the conference, and for arranging their own travel and lodging.
