Lynn is currently accepting applications for the part-time position of Late-Night Library Assistant. This person will assist users with library services and basic IT support from 8 pm to midnight, Sunday through Thursday. This is a 32-week academic year position (does not work during breaks or summers). Provides high-quality customer service and library circulation services, helping users with research assistance and finding library materials, assisting with printing/scanning, troubleshooting IT issues in person and over the phone, monitoring the building for security, and escalating issues appropriately when necessary. Also assists with reporting and interlibrary loan.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  *   Provides polite, high-quality customer service to the Lynn community, providing timely support for Library and IT needs within accepted university practices.
  *   Helps patrons do research, and find materials in the online catalog and databases, in person, via email, and online chat.
  *   Educates users about library services and policies.
  *   Checks materials in and out, handles reserves items and holds, working with the library circulation system.
  *   Assists with reports on overdue items and helps find interlibrary loan items.
  *   Provides security in the building, reporting problems when necessary.
  *   Troubleshoots problems with printers, copiers, scanners, and PCs in the library building.
  *   Helps to train and supervise students assistants.
  *   Provides Tier-1 (initial, basic) IT help.
  *   Identifies and resolves general computer and software issues (operating system issues, password locks, email issues, wireless issues).
  *   Report/escalate issues through the appropriate channels in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications

  *   Experience in front-line, public-facing service, preferably in a Library environment.
  *   Excellent customer service skills and attitude.
  *   Working knowledge of both PC and Mac OS and familiarity with supporting Apple devices including iPhones and iPads.
  *   Ability to work independently after initial training.
  *   Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain and implement policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  *   Master's degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent; or, a candidate currently in an MLIS program.
  *   Experience providing library reference assistance and complex research help.
  *   Experience analyzing and troubleshooting computer systems, software and peripherals.
