Fairydust (MFA Thesis 2021 Sarah Gambles) will officially win Best African American Student Filmmaker for the East Region at the DGA Student Film Awards on February 17th in a virtual ceremony at 5pm Pacific time. For more information about this competition, go to www.dga.org/Awards/Students<http://www.dga.org/Awards/Students>.

I'm Sam Goodwin, a 2014 BFA grad who is currently living in Denver, Colorado! Posting at the request of Meryl to share a few life updates. 1. I've taken a remote job with a marketing firm out of New York, producing and coordinating (primarily) post production and animation projects for Business to Business advertisements. It's... kinda boring BUT the company is great and I'm always on the lookout to hire editors, animators, and post sound folks for reasonable well paying work! 2. I'm currently well into development on a feature film I'm hoping to shoot in North Georgia, later this year. It's based on a short film I wrote and directed a couple years ago, and I'm beyond excited and grateful for the doors that have been opened for me thus far. I'd love to chat with other first time directors (to pick your brains), and anyone else involved in feature development! If anyone is curious about film in Colorado, as well, I have a lot of great connections and big advocacy energy for filming in my home state. Attached the lookbook for my feature for anyone wanting to peruse: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ivyray41bjb4a4c/Homesick%20Lookbook%20Draft%205%20Sam%20Keri%20Lucas%20Bios%20-%20Compressed.pdf?dl=0

From Nick Markart (BFA 19) “I just wanted to pass along that My recent Short Documentary, “Stoneheart: An Undying Gift”, has been selected to screen at SR Socially Relevant Film Festival NY towards the end of March. I will find out more details regarding the screeni. Log line: Steve Hilfiker, a heart transplant survivor and father of four, describes his experience facing death, and how his perspective on life has forever changed following the fateful operation.”

From Josh Tickell (MFA 02) “- wanted to share the great news, our film The Revolution Generation was just acquired by Greenwhich for an Earth Day in Theaters and VOD release:https://news.yahoo.com/greenwich-entertainment-acquires-revolution-generation-160037848.html

Congratulations to Billy Hanson (BFA 05) whose “Everyone Else Is Asleep” won Best Vertical Drama Series at the International Academy of Web Television Awards!

From Dadrian Flavors (MFA Writing 10). I am currently the VFX Marketing Production Manager for Sonic the Hedgehog 2. We're in the middle of our big marketing blitz before it releases worldwide on April 8th!

From Ryan O’Connell (MFA 09) “It's just an office door with my name on it. But to me it represents so much more. Thanks to COVID, I didn't have a full-time job for over 18 months. I filled my time taking care of the kids, doing passion projects, and generally trying to keep my sanity (Amy has been our rock and our rockstar). Spending so much time at home was beautiful and meaningful. It reminded me that being a dad is my most important job. But it was also painful feeling like I didn't have a place in the outside world. My gifts and talents didn't belong anywhere. They weren't useful. Last month I got hired full-time by Grand Canyon University to teach screenwriting and film production. What blessing it is to help mentor young artists to make an impact in their field - especially at a proudly Christian university. God is good.”

From Christian Klein (BFA ADA 16). “I'm honored to share that I was the lead UI graphics artist for Netflix's live action Cowboy Bebop<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.netflix.com/title/80207033__;!!PhOWcWs!mA1S2r_sdbOwhbRrtu4XWUhm4ISDLvi53lhM_8FiHaRa9M6LEqjNRgYzY3gBGAQ$> at Ingenuity Studios<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.ingenuitystudios.com/__;!!PhOWcWs!mA1S2r_sdbOwhbRrtu4XWUhm4ISDLvi53lhM_8FiHaRa9M6LEqjNRgYzpvngK40$>. I got to design and animate the screen for any sort of piece of technology, of which there are many in the huge sci-fi world of the show. I'm still working on curating it all into personal reels and blog posts, but for now, please enjoy this presentation<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xd-2tqsdr_M__;!!PhOWcWs!mA1S2r_sdbOwhbRrtu4XWUhm4ISDLvi53lhM_8FiHaRa9M6LEqjNRgYzFaXbQtA$> I got to give internally at Ingenuity when the project wrapped. It's a very extensive look at not just the final assets, but also the reference images and lookdev that led to their creation. Hope you enjoy, and (sorry, I'm contractually obligated to say it) SEE YOU SPACE COWBOY... “

Congratulations to Adrian Hargrave (MFA Writing 21)! His script “Succession “Alea lacta Est”” was a semi-finalist in the Scriptapalooza One-Hour Drama Category! And to Nick Hebert (MFA2 Writing) for his script “Mare of Easttown “Sister Cities”” also in the One-Hour Drama Category.

From Travis Newton (MFA 08). “The film program at Western Kentucky University is seeking a full-time, tenure-eligible assistant professor with experience in narrative film/video production. The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following specializations: production design for film, video editing, and/or visual effects, as well as skill sets in basic on-set film production that will qualify the candidate to teach core curriculum courses.
