Film School Alums: Come on out to the FSUFILM Pub! We're almost at 300 members, but we need everyone to make it useful and fun. Just sent out a second round of invites so check your inbox and if you don't see your invitation there, check spam. And go to the app store for the mobile app. Just search for fsufilm.

From Julianna Baggott, Film School Screenwriting Faculty: “My producing partner/manager, Brendan Deneen, and I just sold our second project to Netflix, this time in a bidding war. We now have 12 or so projects in development. This one is especially sweet because it was a collaboration with my son, Finneas Scott, a Brooklyn-based writer who grew up on FSU film sets, back in the day. The short story will come out in a collection in 2023 with Blackstone. https://deadline.com/2022/02/netflix-de-aging-father-daughter-tale-backwards-shawn-levy-direct-1234929852/

From Michael Head (MFA Writing 17) “I’ll be performing in Tallahassee with some great LA comics: Laughterday Night Fever, Saturday, February 19, 8:30 PM, 325 N. Bronough Street, Tallahassee.

Congratulations to Shari Petti (MFA 2) whose 2017 documentary, Soft Hair, premiered at PAFF and was nominated for best documentary short film. For PAFF’s 30th anniversary they're showing The Best of PAFF and invited her to screen the film again this year for Women’s History Month. More later about when her film will screen online.

Welcome to the Film School campus to Geaux Francois (MFA Writing 19) who is teaching a class for the writing students this semester!

The Film School rumor mill tells me that Julio Perez (MFA 02) got an ACE Eddie nomination this year for Euphoria – “Fuck Anyone Who’s Not a Sea Blob”. Congratulations, Julio!

From Sara Karimipour (MFA18 ) “Happy premiere day, Wonderlanders! Working and writing on Alice's Wonderland Bakery for the past two years has been a dream. The stories told throughout our series are heartwarming, whimsical, funny, and will indeed make you hungry (so do grab a TeaCupcake!). Whether you're familiar with Alice or you have little ones just learning about her, Alice will leave everyone grinning like Cheshire! Be sure to catch Alice's Wonderland Bakery on Disney Plus and Disney Jr. this week!”
From Marissa Messier (BFA 98) “If you have been watching the Olympics, you may have seen this T-Mobile Curling Commercial. In case you don’t recognize me from the top of my head and my newly acquired toothbrush sweeping skills…. I am the sweeper on frame left! It was a blast having a moment in front of the camera with some amazing other ladies from Hollywood Curling<https://www.facebook.com/hollywoodcurling/?__cft__%5B0%5D=AZV6s6buvHM_-yIu-AiHXkC6HSAG-djgkVWMSuB0nJoOx1eaTvgfmKVCWA7DW4XMIqgxKkQWj1n7pcFkP47_wAPEpoCxRyJAYThB09bBJBuzdGs7IuMYmEgjEF8_1k9mZ_0ZrSCTXZBk3DW7yk2kjX98PjN_oCwNqQVocZKmWUn31g&__tn__=kK-R>. You are invited to an event at 621 Gallery (621 Industrial Drive, Tallahassee, Florida) on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 7 PM featuring Roger Beebe, an experimental filmmaker who will be doing a live 16mm "expanded cinema" performance in addition to showing his work at the gallery. Roger is currently faculty at OSU and the founder of the Florida Experimental Film/Video Festival (FLEX). The program features several newer works (Lineage (for Norman McLaren) (2019, 4 x 16mm), de rerum natura (2019, 3 x 16mm + video), Home Means Never Having to Say You’re Sorry (2021, 4 x 16mm), alongside some of his best-known projector performances (including the seven-projector show-stopping Last Light of a Dying Star (2008/2011)). He will also include a sampling of recent essayistic videos, presented as live-narrated documentaries. These works take on a range of topics from the forbidden pleasures of men crying (Historia Calamitatum (The Story of My Misfortunes)) to the racial politics of font choices (The Comic Sans Video) and the real spaces of the virtual economy (Amazonia).
