Repeat from last week: Brenda and Paige and I will be in New York this weekend, arriving Friday, October 8. We’d love to see as many of you as we can and have two opportunities for a bunch of us to gather (no host) over food/drink. On Saturday at noon we’ll be at Vegetarian Dim Sum House at 24 Pell St. in Chinatown. Let us know if you plan to join us so we can get a big enough table to accommodate everyone. On Sunday we’ll be at Pig Beach Brooklyn in Gowanus (480 Union St.) at 6:00. We think we can all just show up and hang out together in the back, assuming it’s not raining. Brenda’s cell: 850-228-0512 and mine is 850 524 0063. We’ll be staying at Freehand on Lexington and could be available for meetups at other times if these don’t work for you.

>From Evan Barber (BFA ADA 20): “I moved to LA just over six months ago and fortunately haven’t stopped working since I landed. The Patron Saint of Baby Alumni, Alex McFry, (MFA 19) gave me my very first job as an Office PA on a commercial he was coordinating. We worked together on several commercials until I landed a gig as a Covid PA on Being The Ricardos, Aaron Sorkin’s next feature for Amazon. Then I hopped back in the saddle and produced a short film with a director Alberto Orive who I met working on Ricardos. It was difficult, but immensely satisfying to know I could still get movies made in the real world. Currently, I am working as an Office PA on Babylon, Damien Chazelle’s next feature. The past few months have been a constant cycle of conquering fears and continuing my education. Looking forward to the next six!”

Excited to report that Carissa Dorson (BFA 11) will be on the Film School campus for three weeks beginning 10/10 to teach cinematography workshops!

>From Ian Weir (MFA 07) and Film School Post Production Specialist: It is an honor and pleasure to present my newest passion project, the disappearing waters of Lake Jackson. I documented the natural marvels of Lake Jackson’s dry down and return over the last 3 months. As I filmed, I felt called to give voice to a Native American’s interpretation of the cycle. There is such a rich indigenous history and culture here that is seldom realized. I had the opportunity to collaborate with my long time friend Susan Anderson who is a Native American Elder and traditional ceremonial person. I hope you enjoy the film's meditative journey through the natural mysteries and begin to appreciate the powerful connections of the first people of this place with the disappearing waters. Those connections continue and this lake and landscape are held sacred by many to this day.

>From Sam Bellamy (MFA18) “I have just started on my first HBO project! I’m one of the first assistant editors on “Love and Death” starring Elizabeth Olsen. It’s from the team behind Big Little Lies and The Undoing. My editor is hot off of two Emmy nominations for her work on Mare of Easttown and I’m so excited to work with her!”

>From Andrew Adams (BFA 08) : “It’s been a very busy year!! I’ve been shooting/directing/producing a comedy/travel series for Peacock Kids (thanks to Shane Spiegel (BFA 11) for setting it up) and I was hired as the writer on an indie video game called DOOMBLADE. I’m also in pre-production on a microbudget indie feature called AMERICAN MELTDOWN, which I’ll be writing/directing in LA this December. It’s a dark comedy about two Millennial women who embrace petty crime to pay rent, and I’m really excited for it. It’s a very bare bones shoot (inspired by several other FSU alum who made indie films with tiny crews!) -- we’re currently crewing up and are hoping to hire an on-set audio person and HMU (both paid, but low) if anybody is interested. We’re also looking for volunteers - so ifanybody wants to be involved in an indie feature, then feel free to hit me up!! We are open to low-commitment arrangements if anybody is interested but can only offer a day or two, weekends, half days, etc. - our full shoot will be from about Dec 1-18! My email is wanderadams at gmail.com. Thanks!!”

>From Iliana Ipes (BFA 18) “Litegear did a feature on me for Latinx Heritage Month! Litegear’s lighting products have truly taken hold over the film industry. They’re a staple I use and love. In this interview I talk about family, personal growth, and coming together. Give it a read :)

Congratulations to Scott Frymier (BFA 96) who has just been hired as Chief Marketing Oficer for proton.ai. Read the press release here: https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2021/10/04/2308228/0/en/Proton-ai-Taps-Scott-Frymire-as-Chief-Marketing-Officer.html

>From Kat Barnette (BFA 15) “During COVID all independent films stopped - I was UPM'ing a bunch of small things in LA that came crashing to a halt. Then the opportunity to supervise the COVID department on Licorice Pizza presented itself. Doing COVID compliance wasn't my life's passion, but safety has been so it was good for a time. I did that project and supervised the COVID Department on Season 3 of Miracle Workers. Helped me further lots of connections and learn a lot from much bigger shows. Now I am back to production work and Line Producing/Co-Producing a few upcoming projects.”

>From Dan Ast (BFA 05) ““The Hitchhiker” won Best Horror Feature Screenplay at Shriekfest Horror Film Festival<https://www.facebook.com/Shriekfest/?__cft__%5B0%5D=AZXQXnS-dokpdGsN8YIaFK204flUPLaVcCcdhzSNaeEe7Dz6Zb-402r9lRBnnhBcS9WxCVRlRxUssitpv9OWjpDpxPPQg0xY5e6ys9IV6066aN8BMPeMEQnE7bmEcq1NNnMOD1wAu8d-gk6xzWXvSoYN&__tn__=kK-R>!

>From Raymond Knudsen (BFA 19) “I launched a crowdfunding campaign today for my next short film titled PREP. The film is a bodybuilding fever dream fueled by childhood trauma, food porn and acid techno music. Our team aims to spark a conversation about eating disorders, toxic masculinity and the never-ending chase for perfection on the hedonic treadmill. With a lack of films about this athletic experience, I am determined to start that change. https://seedandspark.com/fund/prep
