>From David Liz (BFA 10) “I made an indie thriller/horror film titled "The Welder" which is premiering this Sunday, August 15th, at 9pm at the Silverspot Cinema, in Coconut Creek. Hosted by the Popcorn Frights film festival (https://www.popcornfrights.com/film/the-welder/<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.popcornfrights.com/film/the-welder/__;!!PhOWcWs!gDRi2M_qIAdzRNSggH2Ss0gDEoqyU3BRCDtqMNN3kG44Vogh0GJHY8QUGOzIlXw$>). This film was made entirely in South Florida by collaborators of mostly Latino and Black backgrounds. The story of how and why we made this movie is truly amazing. We are still surprised at how serendipitously everything came together and we'd love to share that story with you. The film centers around an interracial couple: Eliza, a young LatinX suffering from PTSD after a stint in the Army, and Roe, her African American boyfriend who suggests a vacation getaway to help Eliza cope with her stress and anxiety. They venture to a seemingly peaceful ranch in the middle of the Everglades; what at first appears to be a seemingly pastoral paradise soon transforms into a sinister nightmare as a vicious madman terrorizes them for his demented experiments. Brilliantly merging the horrors of Frankenstein and Get Out, this shocking thriller carries a powerful message, especially during today's unhinged times.

>From Andrew Millians (MFA 98) “I just wanted to see if my festival (the Hellbender Student Film Festival) could get another shout-out in the Warren Report. We managed to hold a semi-screening in the spring, but are hoping for something more substantial this November for our second edition. It looks like we'll even be giving out trophies this time around. We're in the last stage of our submission process, but the entry fee is still only $15 for university projects.

>From Jared Prima (MFA 20). “The island has created a new performing arts company (Tobago Performing Arts Company (TPAC)) and I interviewed and received the position of Film Director, with responsibilities for building out the unit, creating training programs to build the island's capacity, using motion pictures, and creating content that speaks to the island's thrusts in cultural awareness and film-induced tourism. It is a massive undertaking, but I am up to the challenge. My experience at FSU FILM will be an invaluable resource to me in building a film program. As things progress, I will be reaching out to the alumni and to the school to create virtual workshops and masterclasses.”
