Diandra Pendleton-Thompson (MFA Writing 2015): “The cat is out of the bag thanks to a Monday morning tweet: https://twitter.com/SirPatStew/status/1044244216677912576<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__twitter.com_SirPatStew_status_1044244216677912576&d=DwMFaQ&c=HPMtquzZjKY31rtkyGRFnQ&r=XK14IrgIaB-M4DhdHvEVmw&m=fcyVYHV1tRuUw-CqCRWrk8TeeGAE8V90atKbcmnjelA&s=3oMlzPlMSoLihmRbNWbhrt4aiQRoz52sbJsA4OTw65E&e=> After 3 months working for Akiva Goldsman, I have been promoted to Writers' Room Assistant for the upcoming Star Trek series starring Sir Patrick Stewart on CBS All Access! Sir Patrick is an absolute delight and I am so excited to join this show in the nascent stages. Akiva, James Duff (The Closer, Major Crimes), beloved Trek guru Kirsten Beyers, and Pulitzer prize-winning novelist Michael Chabon are among the talented writers spearheading this project. I'll be in this room through at least the end of the year and I'm delighted to be working with such an amazing team!”

From Shaina Ulloa (Feldman) (MFA 17). “My VR thesis experience, Mean Ondine(17) was accepted into the El Paso IMPACTFest Film Festival in Texas! It’s a festival purely for Virtual Reality. It’s my first festival ever and I’m pretty proud.”

From Harold Apter (former screenwriter in residence at the Film School): My 8 episode drama series "The Lynching", created by three Czech graduate students and on which I serve as the showrunner, is almost completed and will debut on Czech Television Monday October 22nd. It will also be seen in France, Germany and throughout Europe on the Arte network early next year. I have also recently been contracted by Czech TV to develop new series' for the CT network and for international co-production. I will continue to be based in Prague.”

Ali Bell (BFA 99) and EVP at Paramount Players is currently working on two new features: What Men Want and Dora the Explorer.

From Scott Devine (MFA '93): I'm happy to share that Olive Films has announced the upcoming October 16th release of the original INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS Signature Edition Blu-ray. This is a special and long-gestating project for me. I originally created all of the featurettes back in 2006 (yes, 12 years ago) for the film's 50th Anniversary. But due to the film's rights being caught between two studios, it sat in limbo for over a decade. Fortunately, it is now seeing the light of day. I was able to unearth a treasure trove of previously unseen photos and studio documents that definitively answer some longstanding rumors about the classic film... such as did they really plan to have Orson Welles record bookends for the film and what was Sam Peckinpah's involvement on the project? And on top of that, I also got some excellent interviews with the film's stars along with other name filmmakers and historians. And this Blu-ray should hold a special place for FSU alumni as one of the interviewees is FSU film school's original Director of the Graduate Film Conservatory , Stuart Kaminsky. He was an assistant to director Don Siegel decades ago and Stuart gave great insights into the film and filmmaker. Here's a link to the release announcement: https://olivefilms.com/product/invasion-of-the-body-snatchers-olive-signature-blu-ray/

From Lily Ziegler (BFA 17) “ I have been working at Soapbox Films for the last few months. I will be here until Oct 21 and then I dive back into freelancing. I've been able to experience production from the perspective of a successful creative agency and production company, and considering the production department is very small, I've been able to learn a lot about coordinating in a short amount of time. Mostly, I've had the opportunity to schedule all the shoots that have come in! Not to mention, Soapbox has the most welcoming and friendly atmosphere, so it's been a pleasure being here.”

Last week I listed several alums who made it to the 2nd Round in the Austin Film Festival screen/teleplay contest. I missed Gray Lindsay (MFA Writing 18) who made it to the second round with his script This Joint is Jumpin.

From Nick Economides (MFA 09) “Here is a link to my talk at the IBC, perhaps you can share with your next report as a follow up to my last contribution: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1e9AM3sGwQE&t=3s<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.youtube.com_watch-3Fv-3D1e9AM3sGwQE-26t-3D3s&d=DwMFaQ&c=HPMtquzZjKY31rtkyGRFnQ&r=XK14IrgIaB-M4DhdHvEVmw&m=0pkHOeZ6PJ-DVpnMwEvBGKsy6J7Zu910UNp4l_lBaWY&s=Mc-TT0grxQGsrMKpdjvrKhL7vhPPnznkhATkE85TfbY&e=> It was a great experience overall and even though the live taping of my talk is not ideal, it gives a fairly good impression overall.”

“I am hoping to produce a thematic music video based on a song that is already recorded and mastered. The video will require location shots (can be in Tallahassee or Gainesville); at this time, we have not yet mounted a fund-raising campaign, and I am also wanting to comprehend a reasonable budget. Therefore for now I am seeking a consultation with someone with some experience in this kind of music video. Storyboards and a fairly well-developed layout of shots are available. For more information or questions, call Roger Hunt at 310-936-4556 or e-mail me at roger at rogerhuntmusic.com<mailto:roger at rogerhuntmusic.com> .”
