This Sunday's episode of NCIS: LA has a double dose of FSU as it was co-written by Lee Carlisle (MFA 09) and Andrew Bartels (MFA 08).

From Ryan Brown (BFA 15) “I have a small role in Lynne Ramsay's You Were Never Really Here which is currently in theaters and expanding. It's a great film by one of the best directors currently working so please go check it out!”

Pinewood (Frank Patterson) has pledged $10,000 to fund up to 10 Kickstarter projects at $1,000 each. The project has to have at least one female filmmaker residing in Georgia to be considered. Any project that gets considered is reviewed by Kickstarter and then sent to Pinewood for review. Get the details at https://www.kickstarter.com/patrons/pinewood?ref=patrons

Interesting article/list in Variety about filmmaking programs which “score high marks in both showbiz and academic circles.”

Darren Hoffman (BFA 05) joins our Film School faculty as Entrepreneur in Residence, working with our students to explore their entepreneurial sides. Darren is a music and film producer originally from Miami, Florida, currently residing in Brooklyn, New York. He has produced over 300 traditional and interactive music recordings, founded two companies - Tutti Dynamics in 2008 and Guava Records in 2016 - and co-founded Uncle Nephew with legendary New Orleans Drummer Shannon Powell. Darren was awarded the Basin Street Scholarship for Jazz Studies at The University of New Orleans. In 2012 Hoffman’s company released a next-generation interactive music education platform, Tutti Music Player, which was adopted by Berklee College of Music as required course materials for incoming students. Also in 2012, Hoffman began producing annual recordings and interactive programs with Wynton Marsalis & The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, currently in use at over 1000 high schools. In 2013, Hoffman’s documentary feature film, TRADITION IS A TEMPLE, premiered at The New Orleans Film Festival and at the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater. In 2015, in collaboration with Christian Scott aTundé Adjuah, Darren designed and released the STRETCH MUSIC APP, the first of its kind interactive music album release.

Tried to catch up with Jennifer Braddock (BFA 04) when we were in ATL last week, but she is so busy working we couldn’t! She is a loader on a new show for OWN called Love Is ___, it’s from the people behind Black Lightening and it’s kind of the fictional version of their life story.

Fran Ervin and Stevo Chang (both MFA 04) are going to be in Cannes for the Producer's Network and to showcase our VR film Revoked (it got invited to screen as part of the NEXT program)..

From Ruth Hernandez (MFA 97) “Hello FSU alumns, I've just created a Facebook page page called Writing in NYC. It's to be used mainly as a way to disseminate information about literary events in NYC but I also plan to use it as a launching pad for my second Collaborative Book called "Army of Brass" (Steam-punk!) which is coming out at the end of April. It's printed by CWC http://www.collaborativewritingchallenge.com/<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__http-3A__www.collaborativewritingchallenge.com_&d=DwMFaQ&c=HPMtquzZjKY31rtkyGRFnQ&r=XK14IrgIaB-M4DhdHvEVmw&m=1UWvn5AchTmlCz41AGHPHrL-kvrkmaKpDdPpED3ynz0&s=3FNMkD6H9oy1VCcoyDyaelGtH18eEO9bMAVyg_Lknes&e=>. It's a wonderful volunteer organization where fledgling writers can find an outlet and all the proceeds from the books go to charity. You can pre-order our e-book from Amazon for $0.99 only! I will post an invite on the FSU FB page. https://tinyurl.com/y8qozmr6

“We are excited to announce the 1st annual BET and ColorCreative Script to Screen Contest, launched in partnership with ABFF. BET, the most prominent television network for the African American audience, has partnered with Issa Rae's initiative, ColorCreative, to find an emerging and diverse writer with an original comedy or drama pilot script. If chosen as the winner, one writer will have the opportunity to have their script produced for the screen. Three finalists will be selected to receive a trip to the 2018 ABFF, where they will have an opportunity to network, attend round-table sessions with industry veterans, and enjoy a private luncheon with executives from both BET and ColorCreative.
