Subject: Film School Screenwriting Contest - Deadline June 10!

We're excited to announce a special script contest just for our students, funded by FSU alum and screenwriter Mark Perez.

All you have to do to enter is submit a feature-length film script (minimum 90 pages) or a TV script (comedy or drama, minimum 30 pages) in PDF format, blind (don't put your name anywhere on it), by June 10 at noon (no exceptions) to Emily (eburgess at film.fsu.edu<mailto:eburgess at film.fsu.edu>).

Mark Perez will then read all of the submissions, choose five to send on to a panel of judges (literary agents, managers, film producers, TV executives), who will then choose one winner. That winner will be announced on August 8 at the Gala, and will be awarded $2,500 and a guarantee of 2-3 meetings with industry professionals within one year. It's a big deal and it's open to all of our students, BFA and MFA.

When you send your submission to Emily, tell her your name, what kind of script you're entering (feature film, TV comedy, TV drama), and the title.

Good luck!

Hi girls -
Sorry I’ve been out of town all week. There are no genre restrictions however NO short films.
Only feature length screenplays with a minimum 90pgs.
And TV scripts - minimum 30pgs.

Do we have a date set yet to choose the winner by?

Valarie,

As we gear students up to submit, any restrictions on the scripts?

A few yes/no questions:

Is this genre-open?

Do you want to see only full-length features and original TV pilots?

Would you be open to seeing scripts for short films or does that not give you enough material to work from?

Maybe easier: Is there a page length minimum?

Thank you again! We're getting ready ...

Julianna

Hello Lindsay and nice to meet you Julianna. So sorry not to have been in touch sooner, but life has been busy! As I’m sure it is for you both.

Mark and I will go over the document we had originally sent Frank and Fred and revise it accordingly. Then I will email it to you both of you. Once you read it, if you have any questions then we can schedule a phone call. Sound good?

Look forward to working together on this. We love FSU and love being a part of the Film School.

Best,

Thank you, Lindsay, for putting us in touch. Mark and Valerie, I'd love to hear what your interests are and how best to curate some of our students' work. Maybe it would be easier to get on the phone? Or I could email some questions... I really am so delighted that you want to see what our students are creating. It's such a gift, thank you.

Valerie & Mark,

It was wonderful to meet you both out in LA. Since we returned, I have been working with our faculty in the film school to get your project reinvigorated.

Julianna Baggott, our brilliant writing professor, and I had a great conversation about your wish to be involved with the students. She is thrilled you want to read student scripts!

After talking with Julianna, I wanted to introduce you all by email and share her contact information so we can move the project forward. Julianna’s cell phone number is 850.339.8329<tel:850.339.8329> and she is copied on this email.

Thanks for all you do for the Film School,
Lindsay
