Responsibilities
The Assistant Director of ACE: Academic Success Initiatives is a Teaching Faculty I, 12-month salaried position responsible for the leadership of academic success courses and facilitation of academic support services offered within the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE). This position directly supports the retention and academic performance of undergraduate students with their college-level study skills and personal success habits. This position works in collaboration with other faculty and staff in ACE to connect students to a range of campus resources promoting academic persistence.
Key Responsibilities
* Teach courses designed to enhance the academic success and retention of college students, including those who have faced academic difficulty or are at risk of dropping out or transferring. Develop and revise syllabi, activities, assignments, and Canvas materials.
* Lead faculty meetings to discuss curriculum, progress reports, students of concerns, upcoming initiatives, and/or future curricular plans.
* Manage enrollment of SLS courses (i.e., SLS 1122 Strategies for Academic Success) including scheduling courses, coordinating with Institutional Research, collaborating with the Office of Undergraduate Studies and/or the Director; enrolling, documenting, and communicating with students who need to be added and/or dropped from the course.
* Stay up to date on current literature and disseminate research on evidence-based, learning assistance practices including but not limited to self-regulated learning, motivation, growth mindset, resilience, and metacognition.
* In collaboration with campus partners, develop and implement innovative projects and additional academic support services.
* Design, distribute, and report on evaluations that measure and assess student learning outcomes and support services.
* Coordinate with ACE faculty to collect and analyze data for institutional and department outcomes.
* Participate in the creation and facilitation of ACE workshops and requested presentations.
* Conduct one-on-one consultations with students as well as connect students to additional resources and services.
* As needed, oversee supervision and/or office coverage at the ACE Learning Studio and the University Center.
Qualifications
The minimum qualifications for this position are:
* Academic doctorate in educational psychology, higher education, curriculum and instruction or from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following credentials, prior experience, knowledge, and skills:
* At least two years of teaching experience at the college level, preferably with freshmen and/or students in academic difficulty. Knowledge of undergraduate student issues and challenges and/or best practices in academic interventions for retention.
* Demonstrated knowledge in topics such as self-regulated learning, metacognition, motivation, academic resilience, growth mindset, belonging, student development, and help-seeking behaviors.
* Proven experience with academic support services at the undergraduate level, preferably in STEM related majors.
* Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks, especially complex projects and deadlines in an academic or educational setting.
