Responsibilities
The Assistant Director of ACE: Academy Recovery and Student Success Initiatives is a Teaching Faculty I position (Job ID: 57914) responsible for the leadership of academic success courses and facilitation of academic support services offered with the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE). This position directly supports the retention and academic performance of lower division undergraduate students improving their college-level study skills and personal success habits. This position works in collaboration with other faculty and staff in ACE to connect students to a range of campus resources promoting academic persistence. Key Responsibilities
* Lead a team of two specialized faculty by providing feedback on course materials and teaching practices as well as guidance and support.
* Teach 1-3 courses, per semester, designed to enhance the academic success and retention of college students, especially those who have faced academic difficulty or are at risk of dropping out or transferring. Develop and revise syllabi, course materials, assignments, assessments, and online resources.
* Manage enrollment of SLS courses (i.e., SLS 1122) each fall, spring and summer including scheduling courses, coordinating with Institutional Research, and enrolling/communicating with students.
* Collect and disseminate research on evidence-based, learning-centered practices. When appropriate, create and implement, as a faculty team, new initiatives and/or services.
* Work with campus partners to promote academic success to students throughout the university community.
* Collaborate with faculty and staff within the Division of Undergraduate Studies and other campus partners (e.g., Office of Retention, Academic Intervention Team, etc.) to provide academic support to students in academic recovery sent by referral.
* Coordinate with ACE faculty to collect and analyze data for institutional and department outcomes.
* Design and implement evaluations to measure and assess student learning outcomes and support services.
* Participate in the creation and facilitation of ACE workshops and requested presentations.
* Conduct one-on-one consultations with students as well as connect students to additional resources and services.
* As needed, oversee supervision and/or office coverage at the ACE Learning Studio and/or in the University Center.
Minimum Qualifications
A doctoral degree in educational psychology, curriculum and instruction, psychology, counseling, social work, or a discipline from an appropriately accredited program, college, or university.
Preferred Qualifications
* At least two years of teaching experience at the college level, preferably with freshmen and/or students in academic difficulty. Knowledge of undergraduate student issues and challenges and/or best practices in academic interventions for retention.
* Demonstrated knowledge in topics such as learning strategies, self-regulated learning, metacognition, motivation, self-efficacy, academic resilience, growth mindset, belonging, student development, and/or help seeking behaviors.
* Evidence of implementing STEM-focused academic success initiatives or possession of at least one degree (undergraduate or graduate) in a STEM field, related degree or experience.
* Excellent leadership and organizational skills and the ability to motivate and mentor others.
