Meeting ID: 922 6826 2553
Talks are typically 12 minutes long with an additional 8 minutes for questions. This month our first talk will have the time for two typical talks.

Quantifying bubble-mediated gas exchange using a hierachy of ocean models
By YJunhong Liang
Description: Gas bubbles in the upper ocean drive gas supersaturation and enhance air-sea gas transfer rate. I will present results from a large-eddy simulation (LES) model that concurrently simulates ocean turbulence, bubbles, and dissolved gases, as well as results from a global transport model with parameterized bubble effects informed by LES solutions. Although bubbles are confined to the upper few meters of the water column, their influence on dissolved gases leaves a discernible imprint throughout the ocean interior.

Eddy-mean flow interactions in the Caribbean Sea and their modulation by current feedback to the atmosphere
By Marco Larrañaga
Description: While current feedback to the atmosphere is known to reduce (sub)mesoscale eddy energy by transferring it to the atmosphere, its indirect effects on boundary currents have only been examined in a few regions, e.g., the Gulf Stream and the Agulhas Current retroflection. Moreover, although this energy sink primarily affects (sub)mesoscale eddies, no studies have reported statistics on the sensitivity of eddy properties to current feedback to the atmosphere. Here, we analyze 24 years of Caribbean Sea dynamics using eddy-rich ocean–atmosphere coupled simulations, with and without current feedback, to quantify its effects on mesoscale eddy properties and the resulting modulation of rectified boundary currents.
