From eoas-seminar at lists.fsu.edu Fri May 9 15:58:21 2025 From: eoas-seminar at lists.fsu.edu (eoas-seminar at lists.fsu.edu) Date: Fri, 9 May 2025 19:58:21 +0000 Subject: [Eoas-seminar] Non-Partisan Weather & Climate Livestream Message-ID: Please see below for information about a "a public-facing, nonpartisan Weather & Climate Stream-a-thon, where meteorologists and climate scientists [will] share our work and why it matters for every American" that was recently shared with a few of us. -MD ================== Hi all, As you know, the US weather and climate research community is facing an unprecedented attack on our research and forecasting capabilities. These cuts are upending decades of our invaluable scientific research and weather prediction, and are already impacting our forecasts. As meteorologists and climate scientists, we must work together and communicate with the public about the value of our science. Starting Wednesday, May 28th, we will begin a public-facing, nonpartisan Weather & Climate Stream-a-thon, where meteorologists and climate scientists from across the country will give virtual 20-minute talks continuously as we share our work and why it matters for every American. Viewers will get a chance to interact with the speakers via moderated questions. To make the stream-a-thon a success, we need your help to give these presentations. If you?re a climate scientist or meteorologist whose work has ever been funded in part by the US federal government, sign up as a speaker using this link. While filling out the form, please consider signing up to be a volunteer to help organize the event or act as a ?host? during the stream-a-thon. Since we want this to be a continuous event until we run out of talks, speakers able to cover times in the middle of the night over the continental US are especially needed. As we gather a list of participants, we will follow up with speakers to schedule a time for their talk. We are hoping to stream talks through the weekend to coincide with the NASA GISS lease ending on May 31st and the start of Hurricane season on June 1st. Please share this widely with other contacts in our community, including graduate and undergraduate students who have conducted weather or climate research. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the organizers at wcstreamathon at proton.me.
