The first talk normally starts at 11:00AM.? Each talk is typically 12 minutes long (similar to many professional meetings), with 8 minutes for questions. These talks will be presented via Zoom, with the following connection information: https://fsu.zoom.us/j/98491660566?pwd=NzBxNzN4LzdsbSs4R3B6RzliOGhhdz09 Meeting ID: 984 9166 0566 Passcode: 478314 July 11th Chris Love: TBA Description: TBA David Zierden: Tornadoes in Florida - a Climatological Perspective Description: In this talk we will review many aspects of the occurrence of tornadoes in the State of Florida and the greater U.S. This will include the climatology of tornadoes in the State, significant events, and a discussion of waterspouts versus tornadoes. The current science on the role of climate variability and climate change on patterns of tornado occurrence will also be explored. Using at least the Bulk Richardson number, we will try to find the pattern before the wind shear event happens. Preliminary result shows that most of the wind shear happened between value -0.25 ? 0.25. Opeyemi Kehinde: Lateral advection of Particulate organic carbon in the eastern Indian Ocean A small oligotrophic Agro basin, near Java and northwest of Australia in the eastern Indian is the only known spawning region for Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT). Nutrients supports Phytoplankton at the base of the ecosystem, that indirectly supports SBT larvae growth and development. Therefore, much attention must be paid to the nutrient supply and how they are been supplied, into this oligotrophic region. This talk will discuss how much Lateral advection is contributing to the total new production of Particulate organic Carbon that supports this ecosystem. Keshav J Raja: Wind-generated near-inertial waves in global ocean simulations Surface winds in oceans excite near-inertial oscillations with clockwise (anticlockwise) rotational motion in the Northern (Southern) Hemisphere. These oscillations cause vertical motions at the base of the mixed layer and generate near-inertial internal waves in the ocean interior. It is thought that near-inertial waves contribute about 25% of the energy for global ocean mixing through turbulence resulting from their strong vertical shear and breaking in the upper ocean. In this talk, we use global HYCOM simulations to examine how much energy is transferred from winds to surface near-inertial motions, how this energy propagates horizontally, and where do they dissipate in the global ocean. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
