Steady-state estimates of the Arctic Ocean net fluxes of volume, salt, and heat as part of the global ocean circulation are calculated using inverse methods. High-resolution hydrographic data of Bering Strait, the Greenland-Scotland Ridge, Denmark Strait, and Davis Strait are used to enclose the Arctic box. The model includes air-sea fluxes of
heat and freshwater estimated from wind stress, net atmosphere-to-ocean heat flux, net freshwater flux (precipitation
minus evaporation) including river runoff. Sea-ice is implicit in the model as part of the freshwater flux. Experimental results of the inverse model runs are performed to understand how the Arctic Ocean fluxes are linked both internally and through interaction with the atmosphere and neighboring oceans.
