The College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office ? Please continue to check your FSU email account daily to ensure there are no problems with your late drop request. How do I change a course to a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) grading basis? Students may choose to change only one letter-graded class a semester to a Satisfactory/ Unsatisfactory (S/U) grading basis per summer session by 11:59 p.m. on the prorated 7th-Week deadline for the course in question. This means that students who elected to take a Summer B foreign language course on a S/U basis may also elect to take a Summer C foreign language course on a S/U grading basis providing that the requests are submitted by the prorated 7th-week deadline for each course. The class must meet one of the following requirements: * The class is a language class (Spanish, French, etc.) used for Arts and Sciences foreign language proficiency requirement; or * The class is being used as an elective towards the minimum 120 hours for graduation and/or the minimum 45 hours at the 3000/4000 level. Courses satisfying major requirements (including prerequisites and elective hours within the major), minor requirements, or those being used to meet general education or other university graduation requirements CANNOT be taken on a S/U basis. Students requesting to take a non-foreign language course on a S/U basis must email as-advising at fsu.edu prior to submitting the S/U form through Student Central to state why the course is being taken (e.g., as elective hours only towards the 120 hours needed for graduation), and acknowledging that the course, if taken on a S/U basis, cannot be used to satisfy Liberal Studies, General Education, major, or minor graduation requirements. Students receiving approval to take a non-foreign language course on a S/U basis will be directed to submit their form online. 1. Begin by clicking the My Classes tile from your Student Central Homepage. [https://image.s11.sfmc-content.com/lib/fe3a157175640478731c70/m/1/e3b6578c-bc93-4002-883c-7cb92f6c4116.jpg] 1. After clicking the tile, the Permit to Change Course to S/U link becomes active in the left-hand navigation area if both you and any of the courses you are enrolled in are eligible for a graded-to-S/U switch. [https://image.s11.sfmc-content.com/lib/fe3a157175640478731c70/m/1/d152dad3-57b3-4ced-ac40-5828c2b117cb.jpg] 1. You are prompted to complete a form allowing you to select the course whose grading basis you want to change. Select the course from the Class drop down box. [https://image.s11.sfmc-content.com/lib/fe3a157175640478731c70/m/1/d7863d43-e38f-4eea-a05d-88ac2594b777.jpg] 1. Then click Submit. 2. To access your in-progress or completed S/U Grade Basis Change request and view its status and comments, navigate to My Tasks > In Progress / Completed Forms > S/U Grade Basis Change. 3. Upon approval, you will receive a confirmation email. If your request is denied, you will see an alert appearing as a notification flag in the upper-right corner of Student Central, as well as receiving an automatically generated email. If the online form is not available to you, it is because you do not meet the criteria outlined above. In these cases, if you have an FSU cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, you can complete the ?Undergraduate S/U Form,? found on the Registrar?s website, and email the completed form to the College of Arts and Sciences Academic Dean's Office - Student Affairs office at as-advising at fsu.edu by 11:59 p.m. on the prorated 7th Week deadline). No exceptions will be approved after the deadline. Summer A Course Drop/Withdrawal Reminders Friday, Jun. 25 is the prorated 7th- Week deadline for the Summer A 2021 Session. This is the deadline to drop a Summer A 2021 course without Dean?s permission and grade liability. If you find yourself struggling in the coming weeks, consider the following resources before dropping a course: * Communicate with your instructor during office hours to clarify your grade and make them aware of your struggles. Instructors can provide more information about your grade and help you find additional strategies or resources to improve your performance in the course. * Make an advising appointment with your academic adviser to discuss your challenges. * Take advantage of free tutoring and individual academic consultations at the Academic Center for Excellence. * Strengthen your writing skills with the help of the Reading-Writing Center. * Check out the Office of Distance Learning for tips on improving your online learning experience and using Canvas and Zoom. * Make a free counseling appointment with the Counseling and Psychological Services(formerly University Counseling Center) for an opportunity to process your experiences in a safe and confidential environment. If after exploring these options, you still find yourself unable to meet the academic obligations in a course, you may drop that course, without Dean?s permission, before 11:59 p.m. on the prorated 7th-Week deadline for the course in question. Students requesting to drop a Summer 2021 course after the prorated 7th-Week deadline for the course in question will be directed to use their One Time Upper Division Late Drop, if available, or they must supply documented extenuating circumstances to petition to drop a course (or courses) or withdraw (dropping all courses). You can also email our office before 11:59 p.m. on the pro-rated 7th-week deadline for the course in question for additional assistance. * If you wish to drop all your Summer 2021 courses (a withdrawal), please contact the FSU Office of Withdrawal Services at (850) 644-1741 before 5:00 p.m. on the pro-rated 7th-week deadline for your earliest session course.
