Hello Representatives,

Attached is the presentation from Dr. Chatterjee that was not shown due to technical difficulties. Please check it out and send to whomever you deem appropriate; seems like a decent way to make a few bucks.

-Ben

Hi Ben,

It was good yesterday to talk about UROP to the COGS members. Thanks for having me from CRE.

As due to technical problem, I could not use my presentation to talk about UROP, here is the copy of the power point ( as promised) I was supposed to present.

You may please circulate this to the members who attended yesterday.

Thanks,

Jhunu

Thanks Ben.

We just noticed there were several windows regarding our site in may last email to you and not sure why that happened.

May be, couple of CRE pages were opened in my desktop. Hope that did not confuse you.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Thank you,

Jhunu

By the way, this year we have not received any proposal from the Department of Physics, even from the Faculty members.

We hope this effort may lead to more collaboration.

Thank you.

Dr. Chatterjee,

Thank you for this information. I would be happy to add you to our agenda for our August 1st meeting. We meet at 6:30 PM in the Senate Chambers on the 3rd floor of Oglesby Union. You will most likely not have to wait more than ten to fifteen minutes into our meeting to present, depending upon how quickly we proceed with our business before calling forward guest speakers. Looking forward to seeing you!

-Ben

Hi Ben,

Thank you for your response.

You may please visit our website at

FSU CRE - Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program<http://www.cre.fsu.edu/>

Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program. UROP offers a rare opportunity for first- and second-year students to partner with our excellent faculty as research ...

5-10 mins presentation only on this program should be fine.

To answer your questions,

-Graduate student can serve as a research mentor for undergraduate students who are involved in research

Through one of our major program. Undergraduate research Opportunity Program (UROP). From a pool of applications, we select UG students to join this program and they get the access to the database with submitted proposals by faculty, graduate students, post docs, industry/community partners and select the project of their interest.

-They contact the mentor and start working on the project usually from early October for fall and subsequent spring semester.

Basically, the graduate student needs to submit a brief proposal through the following link

http://cre.fsu.edu/Faculty-Research-Mentors/Faculty-Graduate-Student-Industry-Mentor-Submission-Form-for-UROP

- Center for Undergraduate Research and Academic Engagement<http://cre.fsu.edu/Faculty-Research-Mentors/Faculty-Graduate-Student-Industry-Mentor-Submission-Form-for-UROP>

cre.fsu.edu

Faculty, Graduate Student, Industry Mentor Submission Form for UROP. For more information about UROP, visit the UROP homepage. Here is the link to access the UROP ...

and they can have a highly motivated UROP student as a research assistant at no cost to them.

- Here I am also attaching the announcement which we have sent recently to all graduate students.

But we have realized that a presentation would help them more to understand about this program and we can answer all queries in person to the graduate students

Also, we have not contacted Student Senate yet.

Please let me know the time on August Ist. I am pretty much open except 4:30-5:30pm.

Thank you,

Jhunu

Hello Dr. Chatterjee,

As COGS is generally dedicated to the interests of graduate students at Florida State, I'm interested in what sort of collaboration you're seeking with us regarding undergraduate research. I can certainly arrange an opportunity to speak at our upcoming meeting, but since I'm actually not too familiar with the CRE, I'd be happy to learn more about how graduate students are involved with it. If you're looking for a way to get TAs or RAs involved in the mentoring process or something, that is certainly something we can assist with. I assume you have also sought the attention of Student Senate as well?

As for COGS, we have a meeting on the 1st in which we can allow 5-10 minutes for the CRE to present, but I'd just like to hear more about how graduate students are actively involved with this first. Thanks for your interest; looking forward to hearing more about it!

-Ben

 Hi Ben,

Hope your Summer is going well.

We would like to check with you regarding any opportunity for a short presentation by the Center for Undergraduate Research and Academic Engagement ( CRE) during any of COGS meeting or upcoming event.

We would like to request you to let us know about it and we hope we will be able to reach many of the graduate student representatives to enhance research collaboration between CRE and graduate students at FSU

You have probably received the announcement to submit proposals to one of our major program (UROP, http://cre.fsu.edu/Students/UROP-Undergraduate-Research-Opportunity-Program) which involves undergraduate students, faculty/graduate student mentors.

We would like to present mainly on this program and answer all the questions , graduate students may have.

Thank you and we hope to hear from you.

 Best,

 Jhunu
