This film festival supports and celebrates Indigenous filmmakers from around the world that showcase the resurgence and resilience of their cultural practices in the face of legacies of settler colonialism. The films presented in this series emphasize Indigenous narratives that navigate through centuries of colonial erasure of cultural practices, and efforts to force assimilation into dominant settler colonial society. Some may question their identity due to centuries of genocide and violent assimilation, but the act of picking up a camera and taking back the screen is an assertion of Indigenous sovereignty in the 21st century.

The Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies at the FSU College of Education welcomes Dr. Kakali Bhattacharya, who will be presenting a talk titled "Human Inquiry Is Not Free From Human Influence: Positionality Matters."
Dr. Kakali Bhattacharya is a multiple award-winning professor at University of Florida housed in Research, Evaluation, and Measurement Program. She is the 2018 winner of AERA's Mid-Career Scholar of Color Award and the 2018 winner of AERA's Mentoring Award from Division G: Social Context of Education. Her co-authored text with Kent Gillen, Power, Race, and Higher Education: A Cross-Cultural Parallel Narrative has won a 2017 Outstanding Publication Award from AERA (SIG 168) and a 2018 Outstanding Book Award from International Congress of Qualitative Research. She is recognized by Diverse magazine as one of the top 25 women in higher education.

There is a national push to diversify the teacher educator workforce. Teachers of color make up 18% of classroom teachers, while 80% are White (National Center for Educational Statistics, 2019). AACTE's Black and Hispanic/Latino Male Teacher Networked Improvement Community Report (2019) suggests, "increasing the number of teachers of color in schools provides students of color with role models, offers opportunities to culturally connect, sets high expectations, and reduces implicit bias" (p3). In the state of Florida, 32% of teachers are from an underrepresented group, while 68% are White (FL Department of Education, 2019). Moreover, 63% of Florida's K-12 school population are students of color and only 37% are White (FL Department of Education, 2019). Similar to other teacher preparation programs at PWI's, FSU's School of Teacher Education combined bachelor's/master's teacher preparation program has struggled to recruit and retain students of color. Only 28% of students enrolled in one of the School of Teacher Education's combined BS/MS teacher preparation programs identify as Black or Hispanic. This presentation will identify research-based strategies to recruit, retain and advise students of color within teacher preparation programs.

I am a second year Ph.D. student in the Sport Management program. I am incredibly grateful to be part of this program, which has allowed me the opportunity to work with some of the top scholars within the field. I have a passion for the sport of gymnastics and was a former collegiate gymnast. I am currently the coach for the FSU Club Gymnastics Team. My goal is to bring more recognition to the sport of gymnastics through research, as well as create more opportunities through programs for athletes within the sport.
I am staying positive in the pandemic by choosing happiness and being grateful for what I have in life. I think it is important to take a step back during this time to count our blessings and what we do have in this present moment, for life is precious and it can be gone in a day.
