As the semester comes to a close, we want to say congratulations on getting through what has been a difficult year for most. While not an ideal semester by any means, you have accomplished a great deal and oftentimes made the most of bad situations. The stories of students, faculty and staff coming together and supporting one another through the year's trials and tribulations reinforce what makes the College of Education a special place: the amazingly intelligent and resourceful individuals who work and study here.
While the challenges we faced will not disappear with the new calendar year, we look to a brighter future with new hopes, bolstered by the knowledge that we face it together.
Thank you for all your hard work, understanding and kindness throughout the year. We wish you the best on your final exams and projects and wish you a happy and safe winter break!

Name: Elizabeth Gilliam
Hometown: Miami, FL
Program: Education Policy and Evaluation (Ph.D.)
>From Elizabeth:
Growing up in Miami as the youngest in a family of teachers, service in education has always been my highest calling. After graduating from Florida A&M University with a degree in Chemistry and teaching at local schools in town, I wanted to take my focus on service and community a step further and broaden my influence. I earned my Master's of Social Work from the FSU College of Social Work with a focus in Social Leadership and Policy, making the move to a Ph.D. in Education Policy and Evaluation - a natural marriage of my interests. With internships and fellowships with policy organizations such as The Children's Campaign and the ACLU, I have always committed to making sure those in our communities understand the often cumbersome language of policy in ways that clearly outline the impacts on their lives. My current research interests involve the privatization of public education, and clearly outlining how such moves toward less oversight impact Black students.

Students who complete the Education Policy and Evaluation graduate program go on to make an impact in local, state and national educational institutions and agencies. With a strong understanding of pressing educational policy issues, our graduates influence generations of future students. Our Education Policy and Evaluation graduate program trains you to develop, implement, analyze and evaluate federal, state and local educational policies. Students investigate avenues such as charter schools, urban education reform, school finance, teacher quality, accountability, diversity, to name a few. We offer both a master's (M.S.) and doctoral (Ph.D.) program in Education Policy and Evaluation. In the master's program, students gain an understanding of current issues facing the field. The doctoral program focuses on creating a unique research and advancing educational policy conversations. Regardless of which education policy graduate program you choose, you'll be well equipped for a meaningful career.
