MEMORANDUM
TITLE: FSU’s new Graduate Student Resource Center (GSRC), a virtual hub for graduate student resources and information.
TO: Deans, Department Chairs/Program Heads, Graduate Coordinators to also send to all Graduate Students
FROM: Mark Riley, Dean of the Graduate School and Emily Leventhal, Director of the Graduate Student Resource Center
DATE: March 26th, 2024
PLEASE ALSO PASS THIS INFO ALONG TO ALL GRADUATE STUDENTS. MEGA-THANK!
The Office of the Provost, in partnership with The Graduate School, has launched a website for FSU’s new Graduate Student Resource Center (GSRC), which is a virtual hub for graduate student resources and information. This is one of several education initiatives resulting from FSU’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), which is a required major component of this spring’s Reaffirmation of Accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) process, see https://sacs.fsu.edu/qep<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsacs.fsu.edu%2Fqep&data=05%7C02%7Ccoe-grad%40lists.fsu.edu%7C401cdce8eecb4596c86e08dc4dd5bdff%7Ca36450ebdb0642a78d1b026719f701e3%7C0%7C0%7C638470827614438799%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=AnUr0vt9zch1qWNXb48Wci4Wrrx2xZ1llZrU1LKIqHw%3D&reserved=0> for more details.
Under the leadership of Dr. Emily Leventhal, the GSRC website will be expanded over time to become a comprehensive and centralized list of academic and student support services available to all graduate students. This website is an ideal place to refer graduate students who need additional assistance with academic skills or support in addressing challenges that negatively impact degree progress.

The GSRC website currently highlights three opportunities offered by campus partners who are collaborating on doctoral student initiatives outlined in the QEP:
University Libraries is offering graduate skills workshops<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.lib.fsu.edu%2Fteaching-and-learning%2Fgraduate-series-workshops&data=05%7C02%7Ccoe-grad%40lists.fsu.edu%7C401cdce8eecb4596c86e08dc4dd5bdff%7Ca36450ebdb0642a78d1b026719f701e3%7C0%7C0%7C638470827614438799%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=0vRJlTjxbl3MyGeKrH2JeoVf%2B4838fxmr07bbev%2Fd0c%3D&reserved=0> that include sessions on citation management; literature review; and data management, analysis, and visualization. Doctoral students who attend at least one of these workshops will be eligible to apply for a new travel grant program designed to augment funding currently available from academic departments and the Congress of Graduate Students.
The Career Center is offering doctoral students a set of activities<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcareer.fsu.edu%2Fstudents%2Fgraduate-students&data=05%7C02%7Ccoe-grad%40lists.fsu.edu%7C401cdce8eecb4596c86e08dc4dd5bdff%7Ca36450ebdb0642a78d1b026719f701e3%7C0%7C0%7C638470827614438799%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=o1YIajGCiQLQuS128Bx0viopZVIMRBZbSp1up6e6DNU%3D&reserved=0> to improve readiness for employment in academic and non-academic positions, including virtual mock job interviews and consultations with a new Career Liaison staff member. Additionally, master’s and doctoral students immediately have access to virtual job planning and placement skills modules (for academic and non-academic careers) through two digital e-learning platforms.
The Center for the Advancement of Teaching (CAT) is offering a new complement of workshops, reading groups, and other activities<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fteaching.fsu.edu%2Fteaching-development-program%2F&data=05%7C02%7Ccoe-grad%40lists.fsu.edu%7C401cdce8eecb4596c86e08dc4dd5bdff%7Ca36450ebdb0642a78d1b026719f701e3%7C0%7C0%7C638470827614438799%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=InG2W038%2BiSsta63ZF2KtZsoXmdpMkR9usLVBE702qQ%3D&reserved=0> designed to help Teaching Assistants (TAs) build knowledge of evidence-informed approaches to instruction and ongoing development to benefit current FSU undergraduate students and TA employment outcomes.
Dr. Leventhal is available to consult with department and program faculty on a wide range of collaborative topics, including potential GSRC initiatives, campus resource referrals, and opportunities to speak with students about GSRC engagement during department orientation or other events. She may be reached via email (EL24K at fsu.edu<mailto:email%20(EL24K at fsu.edu>), telephone (850-645-9751), or in Room 4001C, Honors, Scholars and Fellows Building.
