Fresh Check Day
Thursday, Sept. 22

Fresh Check Day strives to nurture a welcoming and informative atmosphere where students engage together in open and constructive dialogue. Students will learn the warning signs and symptoms of mental illness and the availability of mental health resources and services. They’ll also learn how they can play a significant part in FSU’s suicide prevention initiatives.

The free event is organized by FSU Counseling and Psychological Services and the FSU peer educator program, RENEW, in collaboration with student volunteers, other FSU departments and representatives of the Jordan Porco Foundation, the event’s creator.

Fresh Check Day will feature interactive exhibits, food, prizes and giveaways. The Leach Student Recreation Center will serve as the rain location.

Chalk on Legacy Walk

Chalk on Legacy Walk is the Friday before Homecoming Week and kicks off the fun week of events! It’s an opportunity for Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) to decorate a space on Legacy Walk with chalk that highlights their organization and the Homecoming theme, Memories in the Making. Banners painted by each participating RSO will also be hung around the FSU Student Union representing each group and the Homecoming theme.

The PURPOSE program seeks to train a diverse cohort of students in research with a focus on social justice in education. The goal of the program is to provide you with opportunities to develop the knowledge and skills you’ll need to enter and successfully complete graduate programs in education and related fields.

As a PURPOSE fellow, you’ll spend one year developing research skills through varied
experiences, including one-on-one faculty mentorships, bi-weekly proseminars, and research with children aged 5-14 in a service learning research practicum.

You’ll earn a total annual stipend of $11,000 and can get up to $2,000 for research materials, travel, and other costs, such as GRE and graduate application fees.

Application Requirements
·     Continuous enrollment through Fall 2023 at FSU or FAMU as either an upperclassman or beginning master’s student in education or a related field (including but not limited to Psychology, English, or Communication Science & Disorders)
·     In person availability during the day in Tallahassee so you can work with your mentor and attend bi-weekly proseminars throughout the year, as well as participate in the six-week Freedom Schools® summer camp
·     U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
·     3.0 GPA (undergraduate), 3.3 GPA (graduate)
·     Research goal statement
·     Letter of recommendation

College of Education Dean Damon Andrew was named the 2022 winner of the prestigious Stotlar Award from the Sport Marketing Association. The award recognizes "an academician who makes exceptional contributions to sport marketing education." Dean Andrew will be recognized at the SMA conference taking place at the end of October in Charlotte, North Carolina.
