Co-founded by San Francisco Bay Area artist Nigel Poor alongside Earlonne Woods and Antwan Williams - who were incarcerated at the time - the podcast now tells stories from both inside prison and from the outside, post-incarceration. When we search for our favorite songs on YouTube, the number one music discovery channel on the web and the number one destination for kids, we never think we are contributing to the sexual grooming and sexploitation of the most vulnerable and marginalized girls and their aspirational bedroom play. Tween twerking videos sit at the intersection of music monetization, search recommendations, and sexually-objectifying comments and disclosure tactics. This talk unpacks the role music plays and banks on gaining girls' consent to turn up to patriarchal violence and anti-Black sexism. A case study reveals how songs and fan labor do harm to girls in the wickedly complex system of YouTube. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Got an event you'd like to promote to your fellow COE students? Hello, my name is Kayla Wade. I am in my second year of the M.S./Ed.S. School Psychology program and the current President of the Student Affiliates in School Psychology. I am originally from West Palm Beach, FL and received my B.S. in Psychology from FSU. I chose School Psychology because I love working with children and I look forward to being an advocate for students to help them achieve their best, both mentally and academically. Recently, I have been working out and making time to get away from the computer to stay positive during the pandemic. About the School Psychology M.S./Ed.S. Program In the M.S./Ed.S. School Psychology program at Florida State, you will benefit from academic study, practicum experience, and internship leading to certification as a school psychologist. Our school psychologists go on to work in schools around the country and improve the lives of students. As a school psychologist, you will work within the educational community to support students as they learn and grow. School psychologists often work alongside teachers and parents to help identify a student's needs. Through our program, you will learn best practices and effective ways to provide support and intervention. The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) have both accredited our program. A number of our individual programs were ranked highly as well, including educational/instructional media design (#1), curriculum & instruction (#4), educational administration and supervision (#7) and special education (#7). We also ranked #7 in the ?Best Online Master?s Education Programs for Veterans? category. The pandemic has shown us just how critical online programs are to the modern educational landscape. For an extended time, all students suddenly became ?non-traditional? students in a way, as circumstances beyond their control limited their access to higher education. Long after the pandemic ends, barriers will still be present that will keep deserving students away from a high quality education, whether they be related to geography, transportation, health, family commitments, or other circumstances, and online programs in particular utilize technology to help mitigate these barriers. I am so proud that our College continues to forge ahead in the development and delivery of high quality online programs that make a difference in the lives of countless students and their families every day. Please join me in congratulating all who have been involved in supporting our highly ranked online programs as we continue to exemplify our motto of Student Focused, Innovation Driven! I had an excellent teacher, but more than anything else, I found myself enthralled in the material and was fascinated with how powerful our minds are. I knew I wanted to help people harness their power and help people thrive in life. Since the beginning of the pandemic, I have had a bit more time on my hands and have enjoyed baking, cooking, and enjoying the many parks Tallahassee has to offer. I also spent more time talking to my family back in Melbourne, Australia, where I am originally from. About the Combined Counseling Psychology and School Psychology Ph.D. Program The combined counseling psychology and school psychology program embraces a scientist-practitioner model of training for health service psychology. The combined training program endorses a generalist and integrative framework for the education and training of doctoral students. Emphasis is on the development of professional practice skills, attitudes, and competencies that are consistent with the specialties of counseling psychology and school psychology. What distinguishes us from other counseling psychology programs is that we are one of 3 APA-accredited programs offering a combined counseling psychology and school psychology program. I worked for a small company that develops educational board games after completing my B.A. in Educational Technology in Korea. When I started working there, I thought all learners would be highly motivated and get a quality education because they learn by playing games. I merely thought students would be eager to participate in learning activities more if it weren?t a typical lecture; however, I noticed that not all learners were engaged in learning. I wanted to delve into more about instructional strategies and interventions to boost students? engagement and provide an optimal learning experience. I didn?t hesitate to select ISLT at FSU because it is a reputable program with notable scholars and faculties. The ISLT community was so supportive during the admission process that I immediately decided to join this amazing community. About the Instructional Systems and Learning Technologies Program Students who graduate from FSU?s Instructional Systems and Learning Technologies (ISLT) program gain the skills needed for in-demand instructional design careers. Instructional designers work in both public and private sectors and create training, instruction and organizational systems. Our students learn how to use technology and best practices to help improve learning and assist instructors and trainers. Graduates from the FSU Instructional Systems and Learning Technologies program go on to work in businesses, government agencies, universities, schools and military organizations. As one of the top programs in the country, our instructional design program produces highly sought-after professionals. Some of the biggest names in instructional design taught at Florida State, and our program continues the legacy of luminaries such as Robert Gagn?, Leslie Briggs, Marcy Driscoll and Robert Reiser.
