The International and Multicultural Education Ph.D. program at FSU has allowed me to deepen my understanding of policy as well as critically analyze issues important in the field while working with faculty who have rich and diverse backgrounds in international and multicultural education. My research interests broadly focus on the intersectionality of gender, race, and sexual identity formation in undergraduate queer men within the U.S. After graduation, I have aspirational goals of working for a nonprofit organization/think-tank centered around identity, human rights, and education. I view this as an extension of my future doctoral work along with the work I am doing at FSU through relevant student initiatives. Have news to share? ?We'd love to hear from you! Recently FSU was asked to expand our face to face offerings for Spring 2021 semester. Although the Course Search is live, changes to the location of classes will be made over the next few weeks. Please note that classes currently listed for Spring 2021 as Remote could possibly change to Face to Face or to a hybrid of Face to Face/Remote option. This will not happen for all remote classes and there will still be fully remote classes offered in Spring 2021. Each department is reviewing their course offerings this week and I will reach out to you when class changes are finalized. For those of you in our fully online graduate programs, your courses will stay online and will never switch to face to face. Unfortunately, this is a situation that could not be predicted and I promise to keep you updated on the timeline for finalizing the Spring 2021 course delivery changes. Inequitable policies, laws and decisions have perpetuated disparate and harmful outcomes for Black and Brown students and their families. Plessy versus Ferguson, Brown versus Board of Education, Elementary and Secondary Education Act, No Child Left Behind, the "War on Poverty," and most recently, the executive order issued and signed on September 22, 2020 that attacks anti-racist and anti-sexist educational efforts, have both inadvertently and explicitly undermined the fruition of educational equity for Black and Brown students in America. Due to these ongoing historical inequities, many universities around the country have begun to adopt and highlight the need to implement anti-racist curricula and pedagogy. During the discussion, panelists from across the country will discuss their experiences with adopting anti-racist teaching practices and how these efforts can and must serve as a model for educational equity in teacher preparation programs. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [https://files.constantcontact.com/a4906c54201/a444e8ea-befa-450a-bf76-0bc253d7551b.jpg] Meditation Mondays Every Monday 12:00 - 1:00 PM Zoom Join the CGE for a virtual 20-minute guided meditation followed by open discussion and connection.
