A sophisticated perspective on what it means to think critically, why people do not always do so, and how this understanding can be applied across disciplines requires an understanding also of what it means to think, to be rational, to reason and to be logical. This course will provide students with an overview and critical review of these topics by drawing from diverse disciplines including cognitive, social and developmental psychology, philosophy, economics, artificial intelligence and machine learning. In addition, course activities and assignments will focus on how to apply critical thinking processes to the act of composing, revising and editing one's own and others' writing to increase the clarity and persuasiveness of the writing.

EEX 5210: Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intellectual Disability (online)

The purpose of this online course is to provide students with an understanding of the core features associated with and diagnostic criteria used to identify autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and intellectual disability (ID). Students will learn a transdisciplinary framework for the assessment process, and will develop the skills necessary to identify, design, and administer assessments used to build appropriate, assessment-driven educational plans.

The purpose of this course is to help students develop skills in using grounded theory analysis. By the end of the course, you will be able to:
* Distinguish Grounded Theory from other qualitative analysis
* Understand and apply key principles of Grounded Theory data collection
* Understand and apply key principles of Grounded Theory data analysis
* Design and conduct a Grounded Theory study, and
* Develop a model that emerges from your qualitative analysis

Through lecture, in-class, and out-of-class activities, students will explore the principles and practices of pupil personnel work in P-12 educational institutions, including all aspects of pupil personnel services; the role of the school counselor as a pupil personnel worker; and as a consultant on teacher-pupil relations. Students in this course will learn to work with students, teachers, administrators, and parents, as well as their complimentary relationships with other student services personnel. This course is designed for students to understand the essential services of a comprehensive developmental school counseling program along the dimensions of academic, career, and social/emotional development.
