New Student & Family Programs (NSFP) exists to aid in the transition of our new students and their family members. We work with students from the moment they are admitted to Florida State University through the end of their first year. We continue to support and engage family members through Family Connection, publications, newsletters, online chats, and more. Additionally, our office employs incredible student leaders who help us serve our community. Did You Know?

In the 1960's and 1970's, FSU was known as the "Berkeley of the South" due to radical student activities and protests. Although the campus was largely free from the violence that plagued many universities during these turbulent times, FSU students and faculty were involved in the struggle for many issues, such as equal rights for women and minorities, the anti-war movement, and freedom from censorship.

A book by Dr. J. Stanley Marshall, former FSU president (and former COE dean and professor), entitled "The Tumultuous Sixties: Campus Unrest and Student Life at a Southern University," chronicles this period of unrest at Florida State from his perspective as president.
