Dear Colleagues:

Last fall, after receiving and discussing requests for central guidance, I appointed a college-level task force to help establish guidelines for Arts and Sciences instructors on the use of AI technology in the classroom. I want to thank the members of the Task Force, whose names appear at the link, and in particular the chair, Gary Tyson, for taking on this role.  Because AI technology has quickly become accessible to everyone and is now thoroughly embraced by students, it is in our best interests to decide how we will deal with AI as it intersects with instruction.  Further, in light of continuous change occuring with AI technology, the AI Task Force will remain in place for now and will continue its work.  Among its other charges is to explore and report on the growing impact of AI technology on research.  The web site will serve as a repository for information and further guidance.
