PT&E committee - request

If I understand this proposal correctly, we have a problem because Ann and Mark cannot evaluate each other. Other departments solve this problem by having someone step in for just the evaluation of each part of the married couple (keeping the committee size at the original three at all times). There is no need to have a committee of 5 people evaluating everyone. Why are we making this more complex than it has to be?

Hi Dean,

I looked at the minutes from the August 2023 meeting. Each person was nominated for the committee. Rochelle moved to accept the slate of candidates and it was approved by majority vote.

The only eligible faculty members are Rochelle and Jayur (though technically he is not yet tenured, so one could argue to exclude him from the committee).

Best,
Tanya

My recollection is that we voted for PT&E members one-by-one, which is how I think we should do this vote. Could we please have a re-do? Or perhaps it would be better to postpone voting until the faculty can discuss the matter and make their own nominations at a faculty meeting – which is, after all, how we usually do this.

Hi Dean,

That is a great question. Our bylaws do not specify, and in the past we typically vote on a slate of candidates, not each nominee individually.

Best,

Tanya

Tanya,

If you’re going to add two people, don’t we need to vote on each person individually as we would at a faculty meeting?

Thank you,

Dean

Colleagues:

Our current PT&E Committee consists of:

Ann Horsburgh

Mark McCoy

Elizabeth Peters

According to our department bylaws, "The PT&E Committee will rate each faculty member excepting themselves and spouses/partners."

To make sure everyone is evaluated by more than one faculty member, I request that we increase the committee to include Rochelle Marrinan and Jayur Metha (remember that the dean said TT faculty should not be on such a committee).

I have included a link to an anonymous Qualtrics poll asking if you support adding Drs. Marrinan and Mehta to the committee for the annual evaluations. Malinda also has access to the poll results.

Please reach out with any questions.

Tanya
