You are invited to the film premiere of The Safety Net  and a special viewing of the film One Second at a Time

Our communities are confronted with the sad realities of substance use disorder, and we all need to be educated on this devastating problem to work towards solutions together. Join the Florida State University Division of Student Affairs to watch The Safety Net and One Second at a Time on March 29 at the Askew Student Life Center. The films expose the dangers of mental illness, substance use disorder, and fentanyl as well as discuss the impact of collegiate recovery programs. FSU Alumni, Michael Ortoll (The Bowden Dynasty) is not only the Executive Producer of both of these films, but he is also the father of a young woman, Christine Ortoll, who fought, and ultimately lost, a ten-year battle with mental illness and substance use disorder.

The The Safety Net is a moving and inspiring mini-documentary that emphasizes the importance of college recovery programs helping students suffering from substance use disorder achieve their academic and personal goals by creating a safe place for all students to build community. The documentary, produced by the Christine Ortoll Charity, highlights FSU’s innovative collegiate recovery program, LIFT.
One Second at a Time is a docu-drama about addiction and recovery, told through FSU Alum, Mike Ortoll, the father of Christine, a young woman who fought, and lost a ten-year battle with mental illness and substance use disorder via fentanyl overdose. Christine’s struggle is told from her own journals and by those who supported her, including family, close friends, addiction treatment providers, mental health clinicians, behavioral therapists and psychiatrists.
