Here's the bit from the handbook describing what to expect. This is new and is in response to feedback from grads and faculty both. I am about to remind the faculty of the same info below, so everyone should be on the same page. OPEN STUDIOS EVENTS The goal of each Open Studios event is for students to briefly introduce themselves and their current studio practice to faculty visitors. You should expect each conversation to be short, with the intention that a longer discussion can continue in a subsequent individual studio visit. You should plan to email faculty members directly to schedule follow-up studio visits. The First-Year Open Studios event in the Fall is for incoming students only. The All-Grad Open Studios event in the Spring will include all graduate students. Participation in the Spring All-Grad Open Studios event is optional for third-year students. See you next week - let me know if you have any questions! Professor Baade's Awards materials (support and free money) 2. Hearth + Home exhibition call for entry (show your work, cv line, deadline September 29th!) Thanks, and faculty/instructors - any mention of these in your classes would be greatly appreciated! They also state that, "creative works and activities associated with Indigenous nations are also encouraged." Because I've been asked this in the past, please understand that indigeneity is a broad, international category, referring to the identity of a person or group of people who are descendants of a region's original inhabitants. It also extends to those diasporic communities who've been displaced from their homelands/customs often due to colonialism and its legacies. If any of your current projects align with what's asked for above, I encourage you to apply for funding! Up to $1500 is available for grads and $750 for undergrads. Here's the link. I think the interior ceiling leaks that we've been experiencing have been related to the AC system, but there's always a chance that severe wind and rain could cause new problems. Please do what you can to protect your artwork and belongings. Covering things and elevating them off of the floor is a good idea. If you have any materials outside the building, bring them in. High winds could turn things into dangerous projectiles, causing more damage. Let me know if there's anything I can help with. I could see this being of particular interest to anyone interested in mapping as an artistic practice and/or concepts of relational belonging and opacity. See Annie Booth's message below! On Saturday, September 28th, join Dr. Moses M?rz for the creation of a collaborative conceptual map using an artistic research method inspired by the philosophy and poetic practice of Edouard Glissant, researcher, editor, and artist Moses M?rz invites students to represent philosophical concepts and texts through creative conceptual mappings. The completed collaborative map will be displayed later on campus as a part of HOMO SARGASSUM. This workshop is limited to 20 participants. (Reminder that this is also the day of our third-year reviews and exhibitions at WMC/PSG, so many of you may already be at CAB). For these meetings, the goals of the committee are to hear about the strengths of the MFA program and your suggestions for changes. The meeting with faculty is at 2:30-3:30pm in the classroom at CAB. Email Rob with any questions before then. The meeting with MFAs is from 1:30-2:30pm in the CAB Lounge. Kea is the student member of the committee and would be a good person to ask if you have questions.
