To strengthen your application, follow these steps: Artist?s Statement (150-300 words): * Start with a brief bio and explain the core ideas behind your work. * Note for Undergraduates: If applying for an Ann Kirn Scholarship, emphasize the role of design in your studio practice. Selecting Your Artwork (5-8 images): * Ensure your images are well-photographed, under 2MB, and in jpg or png format. * For videos, upload to Vimeo or YouTube and provide the link. * Format still images to 1080x1080 pixels at 72dpi, with a black or white border. * Poor photographic documentation will keep good work from being chosen. Describing Your Artwork: * Include the title, size, medium, and completion date for each image. * Expand on the concepts mentioned in your Artist?s Statement. Additional Achievements: * Highlight any recent accomplishments or activities you want the faculty to know about. Include: * Scholarships, residencies, and community projects * Awards (name and date received) * Volunteer work (activity and hours) * Leadership roles in student organizations Special Note: Completing this application may take several days and require focused effort. Message-ID: FSU College of Fine Arts, Department of Art presents the BFA Thesis Exhibition: No Such Thing as Peace on Earth. The Department of Art invites you to the opening reception of Katherine Michelle Estrada?s BFA Thesis Exhibition opening tomorrow, Friday, November 15 in the FAB Gallery, Fine Arts Building at 530 W Call Street, Tallahassee, FL. November 15 - December 13, 2024 Opening Reception Friday, November 15, 4-6pm Public Access: M 9-5:30pm, W 2:30-5:30pm, T/Th 9-2pm [cid:210df928-3bc3-41a4-b298-b8229362b582] In No Such Thing as Peace on Earth, Estrada combines literal and metaphoric storytelling in her use of traditional oil painting and printmaking techniques to explore the nuances between religious believers and non-believers. While Estrada?s oil paintings are saturated with bright colors, her prints are muted or black and white. ?Oil painting allows me to get in touch with an age-old popular medium wherein historical artists from the Renaissance and Medieval periods frequently used color symbolically and a realist style. On the other hand, printmaking allows me to go for a deeper contrast and show explicit differentiations between dark and light, using linework and shapes.? Estrada sees religious beliefs as something that divides humans in how they maneuver themselves through life, which speaks to the vulnerability of the psyche. Through her current body of work, Estrada aims to show how, regardless of one?s faith or non-faith, humans are constantly trying to just cope with the idea that life could be meaningless, and that the afterlife may not be as spectacular as advertised. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
