Artist Talk: Kari Cahill<https://mofa.fsu.edu/news/upcomingevents/>

Thursday, March 7th at 6:00 PM in FAB 249

[cid:cde5e7d1-a9d5-4d83-b85c-cc10aa46bf5a]

You are invited to an artist talk featuring Kari Cahill, a site-responsive visual artist whose paintings are featured in Talamh agus Teanga. Working with natural materials to create bio-pigment, Cahill?s paintings become intertwined with the landscape through color, texture, and emotion as she creates visceral, bold works dedicated to place. This event is free and open to the public.

Kari Cahill creates abstract landscapes from materials harvested from and processes found within the landscape itself. Her talk may appeal to anyone interested in:

abstraction as a political gesture
foraging as artistic practice and resource for artistic production
broader themes of art and ecology

Message-ID: <PH7P220MB0834A55E31F97582F0B7516FC1232@PH7P220MB0834.NAMP220.PROD.OUTLOOK.COM>

Hello All,

In the middle of drafting this message, I see that the College has sent something out about candidate lectures for the MoFA Director search. Again, this is all happening this week.

I'm attaching cv's for each and strongly support the suggestion to attend as you are able. While I know adding yet another thing directly before Spring Break and in the midst of our own candidate visits for the Photo + Moving Image and Foundations searches is tough, the MoFA Director is an incredibly important position.

MoFA is the venue for our MFA exhibitions, one of the only places locally our students can see contemporary art in person, our faculty frequently make use of it for their teaching and creative research, and their sponsorship and co-sponsorship of visiting artists and scholars has been one of our principal tools for connecting us with larger art worlds and its discourses. These meetings are our opportunity to hear from and ask questions of those being considered for this very important role. Again, cv's are attached, and here's the schedule:

Wednesday, March 6: Hannah Israel

Thursday, March 7: Kaylee Spencer

Friday, March 8: John Fields

Their presentations will all be from 3:00 - 4:00 pm in MoFA, with informal conversation with audience members scheduled until 4:30.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi all,

Tori has been working with the transportation folks to make sure that those of you who rely on the bus will be able to get home from CAB if you're working late.

The bus route won't change, so continue to use the Seminole Express bus. After bus service ceases for the day, they have arranged for the SAFE Connection program to assist in getting you home via a Lyft Pass. Here are the instructions:

Students will need to download the Lyft app, add a Lyft Pass to their payment methods, enter code CAR2024S, and then request a Lyft ride. This will provide transportation from the Carnaghi Arts Building to their on-campus or off-campus residence (assuming it is in the vicinity of FSU) at no charge up to a maximum ride cost of $15; any cost above the $15 will be charged to the student. This service will be available from 8p-2:30a nightly for the remainder of the spring semester.

Let me know if you have any questions and I will help get it figured out!

?
Dear Jeff
?
My name is Jennifer Carolin and I am the cofounder of the Mudhouse Residency, an international artist residency on the island of Crete in Greece.
?
I was hoping you could share this invitation to participate in a 2024 summer residency at Mudhouse with your graduate students and/or exceptional undergraduate students.
?
Focused on creating cross generational dialogue, each year the Mudhouse brings together a diverse cohort of resident artists in the remote mountain village of Agios Ioannis, providing them with the stunning natural beauty of its environment, solitude to foster creative growth, an immersive cultural experience within a profoundly rich historical context, and most importantly an artistic community that enriches each artist through their participation.
?
Understanding the difficulties in transitioning from academic study to professional career as an artist, the Mudhouse Residency actively recruits young artists to attend and work alongside emerging, mid-career, and established artists. Furthering this aim, this summer, the artists Cassils and David Brooks will be our featured visiting artists.
?
Now in its eighth year, the Mudhouse has worked with students and faculty from around the world. Below is a list of institutions where artists-in-residence were either current students or faculty while attending the Mudhouse. ?
?
As I hope you can see, as artists ourselves, we at the Mudhouse are very eager to work with academic institutions to support exceptional artists as they enter and move through their careers. I would very much welcome a conversation to speak with you further.
?
The deadline to apply for this summer?s programs is March 30th. Hello All,

Notice, FSU ITS Networking, will be working in FAB tomorrow, 3/22, throughout the day to refresh wireless access points around the building. Expect to see workers around the building. We do not expect to have any issues, but might have occasional wireless connectivity spots during maintenance.

Thank you for understanding and let me know of any questions or concerns.

Hi all,

FSU Transportation and Parking have been really generous in trying to help students who are staying late at CAB this semester. There have been some hiccups, and they've made changes very quickly to help even more. I put together a document that will hopefully answer any questions you may have, but feel free to email me if you have more questions.

Thanks,
