All best, Katie ***** Dear library friends, I hope you all are well! I wasn?t sure who the best person to touch base with would be so I hope it?s ok to just send a single email - I wondered if you would consider passing along this opportunity among the Art student body? I am writing to share the FSU Libraries Art in the Library?s call for submission for our summer/fall 2024 juried exhibition at Strozier Library. This will be the inaugural student art exhibition by our program at Strozier?s new, humble gallery space, and we?re really excited! The theme is around Tallahassee?s bicentennial and its relationship with FSU over the years and today, and applications are due to this website on the ?summer 2024 juried exhibitions? link by March 1. Current FSU students artist AND students who will be in the first semester post-graduation (new grads in summer 2024) are invited to submit 1-2 wall hanging works that speak to the theme. In addition to the link above that goes to the application, here?s a longer call for the show with more background. In addition to this juried show, we are always seeking full exhibition proposals from solo and group student artists on a rolling basis as well. The first link above goes to our application page in general, and the top section there is a different app for those exhibition formats (not juried) ? the next opening we have is at Dirac Science Library for the fall 2024 semester. We are also open to applications for spring 2025 as well, for both the Dirac and Strozier gallery walls. Related but unrelated: if there are student groups or even a class that would be interested in exhibiting anywhere between ~10-20 works for the entirety of a semester (spring, summer, or fall) we have not yet done a partnered show like that but we are very open to the idea of it ? please just have anyone interested in that opportunity email me directly and we can talk more (LRSherman at fsu.edu). Please share widely with your classes, or any students who are eligible that you think might be interested. They may be starting their shifts as soon as this week! This is an addition to the security that's already out there and some of their hours will overlap (ie: there are two guards) The weekly schedule looks like this: * Every night, the regular security will be there from 4pm-1am * Every night except Tuesday and Wednesday, the new security will be there from 10pm-2am As you can see, there is overlap in the late-night hours. This schedule may change in future, but this is what we have for the remainder of this semester. The idea is that you should plan to wrap things up by 1am or 2am, depending on the night. Also important to know: There is the possibility of extending hours during peak times in the semester. Please let me know if you foresee any times where this would be useful. The earlier the better, since they said that they are expecting a few weeks notice for these kinds of changes. Thanks, and please email me with any questions. Most importantly, please give me feedback on how things go with this new arrangement during this semester. Before we get to that, however, this Friday is going to be huge. In addition to the amazing exhibitions that we've grown to expect from WMC and Phyllis Straus galleries, I really love that, with the inclusion of the Atrium exhibition, it incorporates students' work from all levels and areas. Please be present if you are able - should be a great time and big crowd! Also, while the NASAD schedule is still evolving, I wanted to let you know a few things that are relevant to you. 1. Sunday, Feb. 25th, from 4:00 - 6:00 pm, I'll be touring NASAD reviewers around CAB. I'm not mentioning this as an encouragement to stay away - actually far from it. I actively encourage you to be present, to be utilizing the facilities, and present for reviewers to speak with should you or they be inclined. 2. Monday, Feb. 26th, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm I'll be touring NASAD reviewers around FAB, ATL, and KRB. During this time, we will be going everywhere. Please don't be weirded out by this - again, I encourage you to be present and active. 3. All-CFA Graduate Student meeting (Art, Art History, Art Ed, + IAD), tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 27th, from 5:00 - 6:00 pm in WJB 2005. From what I understand this is intended to be an open forum. They will ask questions to get the ball rolling, but mostly they want to hear from you. Please attend if you are able! As mentioned, these times are still tentative, but I wanted to put them on your radar. Confirmation of the above or notification of any changes will be forthcoming from myself, Rob, or Tene?. Please take advantage of these - no admin (including myself) will be present, and these really are a time when the NASAD reviewers want to hear from you. I anticipate that they will ask probing questions to get the ball rolling, to which you should reply truthfully. You could and should bring up those aspects of the job which are not great, but also understand that it really helps to acknowledge those facets which are useful and appreciated as well. I say this because getting accredited well is honestly in everyone's best interests. This is particularly the case for the students who have made the decision to study at FSU in part based upon the currency a degree from our program affords.
