Dear Students,
We are thrilled to announce the 2023-2024 Department of Art Student Awards at FSU!
These awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students, and yes, that includes YOU!
The Department of Art offers a range of awards to Studio Art students who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishment. These awards vary from $300 to $1000. With a strong application, your chances of selection are excellent!
It's important to note that all awards will be applied to your Financial Aid package. If you have any specific questions regarding how the award will be applied in your case, please reach out directly to the Financial Aid office.
All BA, BFA & MFA Studio Art students in good academic standing enrolled for the Fall 2023 – Spring 2024 term are eligible to apply. Recipients of awards can expect to see the funding applied to their FSU account early in the Spring 2024 semester.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
To apply, go to https://fsu.academicworks.com/. After login, students will need to fill out the General Application first, and then will be directed to complete the Art Award application. Both parts of the application must be completed to be considered for an award. Full instructions on the Awards Application Guidelines link below.
To ensure your application stands out, follow these steps:
1.
Artist’s Statement (150-300 words):
* Begin with a concise bio followed by the core ideas behind your work.
Note for Undergraduates: If applying for an Ann Kirn Scholarship, highlight the role of design in your studio practice.
2.
Selecting Your Artwork (5-8 images):
* Images should be well-photographed, under 2MB, and in jpg or png format.
For videos, upload to Vimeo or YouTube and share the link.
Format still images to 1080x1080 pixels at 72dpi with a black or white canvas extension.
3.
Describing Your Artwork:
* Provide title, size, medium, and completion date for each image.
Use this opportunity to elaborate on the concepts introduced in your Artist’s Statement.
4.
Additional Achievements:
* Share any recent accomplishments or activities you'd like the faculty to know about.
Include:
* Scholarships, residencies, community projects, etc.
Awards (name and date received)
Volunteer work (activity and hours)
Leadership roles in student organizations.
Special Note: Completing this application may span several days and require dedicated effort. Your investment of time and thought will significantly enhance your chances of success. Moreover, this groundwork will better prepare you for future award applications, both on and off campus.
Sample applications and tips for writing your artist statement are posted on the department website:
