Success Stories — From Art Students To Art Careers
2nd Edition – Focus on Design

Success Stories is a continuing series of talks with art professionals, many of whom graduated from the Studio Art program at FSU. The goal of these talks is to provide art students with insights, inspiration, and constructive advice for their own career paths.

For this talk, our guest speakers will discuss their individual approaches to design and talk about their experiences in the art and design world. The panelists will speak for about an hour, followed by a Q & A session.

When: Friday, March 12 at 1:00-2:30pm

Our guest speakers are:
· Larry Weru – BA ‘14 with degrees in Studio Art and Biological Science, App designer and web development consultant.
Larry is a Digital Storyteller exploring how information design, data viz, and narrative rooted in science can help build a more just and sustainable world.
· Kathryn-kay Johnson – BA ‘16 – Digital Media and Video Artist
Kathryn utilizes appropriated media from contemporary advertising culture, along with text, fabric, audio, video, and digital fabrication processes to develop a sensorial fictive placemaking that is rooted in African Diasporic mythologies and a womanist perspective. Her work gives voice to the powerful, inarticulable, contradiction-filled crises and delights of the human experience. She is currently an MFA candidate at the Yale University School of Art.
· Brittany Gress – BA ’16 – Graphic Designer, co- founder of the Tallahassee chapter of AIGA, and lead organizer for Tallahassee Design Week
Brittany is a visual artist who specializes in social design and community innovation. Her passion for the fine arts fuels her work with local nonprofits to create meaningful projects that question, uplift, and empower the community.
