[Art-mfastudio] *NEWS* The neverending changes and flexibility of academia

Hello everyone,

Tonight, we have another informal meeting at 5 PM, but I wanted to pass on some news first.

When Stephanie James asked me to take on this position, I was happy to do what I could to move the program forward while creating an atmosphere of consistency, communication, and respect. Any headway I've made in these areas is due to all of you and the never-ending work and dedication of Tenee' Hart.

As many of you know, I am not a tenured or tenure-seeking faculty member, and as such, my holding this position stretched our department's by-laws. Due to our current efforts to update and solidify departmental by-laws for consistency and clarity, I have been asked to step down as MFA Director, effective this fall.

The past two years have been a fantastic experience, and I am a better person, having worked with and for each of you. I am also beyond appreciative of your focus, patience, and flexibility as we moved through difficult times.

Moving forward, in the fall,  Professor Carolyn Henne will step into the position of MFA Director, and I have no hesitation in saying that she will bring a wealth of insight, foresight, experience, skill, and approachability to the program. Carolyn previously served as the Chair of our Department, and we are fortunate that she has agreed to be the next MFA Director.

You're not rid of me, though, as I will now step into the role of Area Head of Sculpture and look forward to working with many (if not all) of you, and will bring the same energy, passion, and openness to that position. We've all been through difficult times this past year, and I'm excited for what lies ahead.
