[Art-mfastudio] Scheduling some studio visits for you

Dear graduate students,

This year has posed unique challenges for you, and many programs that add broader context to the MFA experience have been canceled or postponed due to travel restrictions. To address some of these needs, the Department of Art has allocated funds for a visiting critic series this spring. Lilian Garcia-Roig asked Daniel Luedtke and myself to help organize this program, and we invited Alex Adkinson, the president of the League of Graduate Artists, to work with you to identify potential visiting scholars. Many thanks to Alex for the great work he has done on this and to those of you who made suggestions. It is our goal that every one of you will have an opportunity to do a 20-30 minute studio visit with one or more of the visitors. The Department of Art has partnered with the museum to bring in visiting artists<https://mofa.fsu.edu/news/upcomingevents/> this semester, including Earlonne Woods and Nigel Poor, Hank Willis Thomas, and Wendy Red Star. The graduate student visiting critic series is an opportunity to complement those speakers with one-on-one conversations (done over zoom).

Below is a list of artists, art historians, and curators we put together in response to conversations Alex had with you. We have not confirmed visits with any of these folks yet, and we want your feedback before we do. Please look over this list and identify 3-4 people you would like to meet with. You may also suggest other names for consideration as well. We cannot make any promises, but we’ll do our best to schedule time with the people you are most interested in meeting.
