This resource is different than the Honors in the Major Program requirement to post your final written thesis to DigiNole at the end of your Defense Semester, but could be a great way to supplement your project if it is not best expressed through writing alone. Using CreateFSU would provide you with the ability to build a digital presence for your thesis project that is appropriate for whatever your research may be. This could include interactive maps or images, data visualizations, visual or audio or moving image media, and more. Students interested in CreateFSU should visit their web site at https://create.fsu.edu/ and fill out the spot form for a consultation. Please note that all HITM students still must meet the written portion requirement and must upload their final written portion to DigiNole, whether CreateFSU is used or not. Please refer to the Honors in the Major Handbook if you have questions about this requirement or if you are interested in the possibility of completing a creative Honors in the Major project. Message-ID: <221C4ACC-FA27-4D19-98CF-69A4E116874B@fsu.edu> Announcing the Spring 2022 Art Student Awards Dear Students, The FSU Department of Art announces the Spring 2022 Art Student Awards. These awards recognize the strength of our students and that means YOU! The Department of Art gives a number of awards to Studio Art students whose work demonstrates exceptional achievement. Awards range from $250 to $1000. We are typically able to provide 30+ awards ? so with a strong application, you have a great chance of being selected! All awards are applied to your Financial Aid package. If you have questions about how the award would be applied in your specific case, please contact Financial Aid directly. All BA, BFA & MFA students in good academic standing enrolled Spring 2022 are eligible to apply. To apply, go to https://fsu.academicworks.com/ After login, fill out the General Application first, and then select College of Fine Arts/Dept of Art Application and complete the art portion as outlined below. Both parts of the application must be completed to be considered for an award. Application deadline ? Tuesday, February 1st at 11:59 pm Preparing your Art Award application ? make it great! Here?s how: 1. Develop a concise yet compelling artist?s statement between 150 and 300 words in length. Start with a brief biographical statement, followed by a description of the ideas that drive your work. SPECIAL NOTE for Undergraduates: If you wish to be considered for an Ann Kirn Scholarship (a $1000 award limited to undergraduate students), you must include a thoughtful description of the role that design plays in your studio practice. 2. Select the five (5) to eight (8) images that best represent your studio work. Formatting your images: Be sure that your images are photographed well and cropped as needed. File sizes should be less than 2MB and either jpg or png. A video will be considered as one image. Submit your video to Vimeo or YouTube and provide a link within your application. Still images should be in a square format: To get your images into a square format, open the image in Photoshop. Go to Image/Image Size and size the image to 1080 pixels on the longest edge at 72dpi. Then, go to Image/Canvas Size, and make the width and height 1080 pixels x 1080 pixels and choose the canvas extension color as black or white (or choose a color). Keep the anchor dot in the center. Choosing your images: A balance between breadth and depth is ideal. If no two images are related in any way, your submission can appear unfocused. If all of the images are extremely similar, you can come across as short on imagination. Most importantly, be sure all of the images presented are your very best. It is better to submit six great images than to submit six great ones and two weak ones. Media awards: Each of our focus areas has a $250 award (Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics, Digital Media, Photography). You will have the option of selecting one or more areas that best describes your focus, but your images must reflect that. For example, if you want to be considered for the Painting Award, you must submit some examples of your best work in painting. 3. Write a brief description of each image and provide the title, size, medium, and date completed. This is a great opportunity to build on the general comments from your Artist?s Statement through specific information about each image. 4. Additional Scholarship & Practice, Awards, Volunteering, and Leadership If you would like the faculty to know about any additional achievements you have had recently, please list them here. These could include: 1. Additional scholarship and practice, such as an artist residency, community project, etc. 2. Specific awards you have received (list the name of the award and date) 3. Volunteer hours (list the particular volunteer activity and the approximate number of hours) 4. Leadership roles you have taken on (such as a leadership role in a student organization) SPECIAL NOTE: The application as a whole may evolve over several days and is likely to take many hours to complete. Putting the necessary time and thought into it will greatly improve your chances of success. Furthermore, once you have laid the groundwork with this application, you will be better prepared for future applications for awards on or off campus. Sample application and tips for writing your artist statement are posted on the department website: https://art.fsu.edu/opportunities/scholarships-grants/department-of-art-student-awards/ Questions?
