The museum is hosting a talk with Sharon Louden on September 24th, and as part of her ?visit? we?ve requested that she spend some time with you on Friday, September 25. Sharon is an artist, writer, and arts administrator who wears many, many hats (including Artistic Director of the Chautauqua Institute, including the residency program) and has served as a mentor for Creative Capital and the Andy Warhol Foundation. She is the editor of the Living and Sustaining a Creative Life book series and writes and thinks about the art world a lot (including in this article for Hyperallergic about MFA programs and commercial galleries). Sharon will host a lunch, just for you, on Friday, September 25 at noon on zoom. This is an opportunity for you to ask about building a career ? applying for opportunities, introducing yourself to curators, setting up a studio, getting your writing published, anything you?re curious about. I?ve had the great pleasure of getting to know Sharon over the past couple years, and she?s incredible. Her energy, intelligence, and generosity are legendary. She knows everyone and is dedicated to helping people meet each other and get things done. Here?s the zoom link for your lunch conversation with Sharon Louden tomorrow at noon: https://fsu.zoom.us/j/7388906569 Don?t forget that we?re hosting a public dialogue tonight at 6 (register here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/an-evening-with-sharon-louden-tickets-118933566499). Generally speaking, it?s bad form to attend the private event/studio visit and not go to the public lecture. These are crazy times though, so I encourage you to come tonight, but I don?t think art karma will strike you down if you can?t. Over the course of the semester I'll be holding several of these conversations framed with a student audience in mind. In addition to prepared questions from me, these artists will be expecting to answer questions from undergrad and grad students in our program. It should serve as a great platform to discuss concepts and pragmatics alike, with a bizarre crop of practicing artists. Tomorrow night, SEPTEMBER 30TH at 8PM I'll be joined by Tyler Brownlow-Calkin. Tyler Calkin (Tyler Brownlow-Calkin) is an interdisciplinary artist and educator. His multi-modal practice examines social constructions, habits, and anxieties through play and improvisation. Drawing particularly from safety and hygiene products and evolving digital interfaces, Calkin rearranges material culture into social catalysts. The resulting situations propose new models for interpersonal and inter-object relations. As an educator Calkin heads the Digital Media program in the University of Nevada, Reno, where he teaches critical discourse and experimental practices in video, virtual and augmented reality, immersive and interactive media, performance, and game design. (http://www.tylercalkin.com/) Please find the Zoom link and passcode below to join us. We look forward to seeing you then!
