[Art-mfastudio] Better communication

Hello Everyone,

I hope this email finds you well, in good spirits, and excited for a new semester!

Some of you made us aware of your plans to be remote (either not in Tallahassee or by staying off-campus) a while ago (which I much appreciate). Others have very recently let us know of your intentions to embrace a remote status. This is a discussion you should have had with me and our Chair, Lilian Garcia-Roig, beforehand, and definitely before now. While I support your decision, please understand that this late notification involves rearranging schedules for many other grads and a recalibration of GA positions based on your now remote status.
     The broader conversation here involves clear communication that will enable the MFA program to move forward in the best ways possible. If you ever need to reach out, do not hesitate to do so - complicated situations can be averted by addressing issues as they come up rather than letting them fester, or being blind-sided by surprises.
     To this end, I would like to bring back a device that Lillian used during her time as MFA Director - a suggestion-box that would be an anonymous way for anyone to air their thoughts, grievances, or ideas (I'll make it big). Paper and pen are all that will be used - no digital, no forms, no internet, no doodle polls, and I'll let you know where it'll be located when it's ready.
     To bring these ideas and concerns to the forefront, I will be initiating a monthly informal meeting, during which you can be brought up to date on what's going on in the department while having a forum addressing any issues. These meetings would be via zoom, and details will be forthcoming.
     I am here to make your time at FSU as productive and meaningful as possible, and I can only do that if we have an ongoing and productive dialogue.
