The University?s mandatory First Day Non-Attendance Drop policy is in effect for the first week of Spring 2025 classes. The use of different delivery methods for Spring 2025 classes does not remove this requirement. Dropping students for first day non-attendance is necessary in order for the university to remain in compliance with Federal Financial Aid regulations (and students expect it). This policy requires all faculty and instructional staff to take attendance at the first class meeting of the semester. This policy is non-discretionary and applies to all classes, regardless of campus, space availability in the class, delivery method, course level, and/or academic unit offering the class.



As a reminder, ?attendance? means making contact with the instructor as specified by the instructor at the start of the term. There are a number of ways this contact can be achieved. One way instructors can take first day attendance is via their Canvas course site(s).         4. myFSU Mobile -- Check and submit first-day attendance via the mobile version of Faculty Center. 5th Day Classes and Non-attendance Drops:



Once drop/add closes on Thursday, 09 January 2025, faculty will still be able to use the attendance tool for their Friday (10 January) classes. Please take attendance in any class that meets for the first time on Friday, 10 January 2025.



Additional Information



We are no longer processing administrative cancellation requests on the fifth day of classes. Students that need to drop all of their classes will need to be directed to the Withdrawal Services Office.

Greetings Artists!

Coming to you from the School of Dance, we are artists working with technology and we will be offering a Special Topics Course for spring 2025: EDIT LABS. This will be a once-a-week meeting time to support student tech projects, foster new ideas that are brewing, and a place to exchange knowledge in the areas of performance, music, and movement intersecting with technology. Please see the course description below and email us ASAP if you are interested. Make sure to copy Jeffrey Bray, our Academic Program Manager, and he can get you registered. Also take a moment to tell us a little about your interests, desires, and goals.

EDIT LABS
Rooted in the philosophy that learning happens from the inside out (not from external forces), this workshop-style laboratory will focus on experimentation, process, and risk-taking. EDIT, which stands for Embodied Design in Technology, is about redefining traditional forms in dance, music, and visual art to forge new pathways in emerging technologies and cultural expression.

What will this course look like? The group will meet once a week where new skills are introduced (in media design, audio and video editing, and projection design), guest artists will be invited to speak about their work, and students will share their ideas in progress. The semester will culminate in a showing of ?where we are now?, with emphasis on idea development and artistic evolution.

Who might be interested? Undergraduate or graduate students who want to integrate technology into an embodied practice, students exploring projection or sound design, or students wanting to finally put that film or music composition into action!

Course credit: 1-2 variable
Time: Wednesdays 3:30-4:50 PM
Location: Tech Studio/Black Box
Co-taught by Farai and Tiffany

Check out the attached photos of the different audio and image devices that we'll be using to interface with processing and editing software (Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, Isadora, Q-Lab).

Tracing Boundaries: The Intersections of Places and Identities

Exhibition Text: The tapestry of life intertwines identities, places, history, and discourse, weaving an image that traces the ever-changing boundaries of self and others. In Tracing Boundaries, artists engage dialectics between bodies, materials, and places to amplify sensitivity to, and a sense of responsibility for, issues ranging from environmentalism to consumerism, multiculturalism, and more. The photographs in this exhibition are made and displayed with various experimental techniques, morphing into tangible three-dimensional objects flowing in space, echoing alternative approaches in contemporary photographic practices. In Tracing Boundaries, the act of belonging is a socially and politically engaged practice. The artists invite us to cultivate a deeper connection with the various nexuses of identities and dwellings we inhabit.

This exhibition will present student work from Materials and Methods: The Advanced Photography Workshop course. This course will be offered again in Fall 2025.

Tracing Boundaries: The Intersections of Places and Identities

Exhibition Text: The tapestry of life intertwines identities, places, history, and discourse, weaving an image that traces the ever-changing boundaries of self and others. In Tracing Boundaries, artists engage dialectics between bodies, materials, and places to amplify sensitivity to, and a sense of responsibility for, issues ranging from environmentalism to consumerism, multiculturalism, and more. The photographs in this exhibition are made and displayed with various experimental techniques, morphing into tangible three-dimensional objects flowing in space, echoing alternative approaches in contemporary photographic practices. In Tracing Boundaries, the act of belonging is a socially and politically engaged practice. The artists invite us to cultivate a deeper connection with the various nexuses of identities and dwellings we inhabit.

This exhibition will present student work from Materials and Methods: The Advanced Photography Workshop course. This course will be offered again in Fall 2025.

Please see the below regarding repair work happening at CAB. They do not mention water needing to be shut off during these repairs, but if it is, this is likely the reason.

We have found a water leak under the slab between the walls of the mens and women's restrooms in the lobby. Both restrooms will be closed until the repair is complete. Please let building occupants in your departments know.
