From mivory at fsu.edu Mon Jan 6 08:30:24 2025 From: mivory at fsu.edu (Celeste Ivory) Date: Mon, 6 Jan 2025 13:30:24 +0000 Subject: [Art-instructors] REMINDER: 1st Day Non-Attendance - Spring 2025 In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Good morning, All, Please review the email below~ ________________________________ From: Jeremy Johnson Sent: Monday, January 6, 2025 8:05 AM To: Jeremy Johnson Subject: REMINDER: 1st Day Non-Attendance - Spring 2025 Good Morning, Please forward this email to all Spring 2025 instructional faculty and staff. The University?s mandatory First Day Non-Attendance Drop policy is in effect for the first week of Spring 2025 classes. The use of different delivery methods for Spring 2025 classes does not remove this requirement. Dropping students for first day non-attendance is necessary in order for the university to remain in compliance with Federal Financial Aid regulations (and students expect it). This policy requires all faculty and instructional staff to take attendance at the first class meeting of the semester. This policy is non-discretionary and applies to all classes, regardless of campus, space availability in the class, delivery method, course level, and/or academic unit offering the class. As a reminder, ?attendance? means making contact with the instructor as specified by the instructor at the start of the term. There are a number of ways this contact can be achieved. One way instructors can take first day attendance is via their Canvas course site(s). Please see First Day Attendance in Canvas for more information and options. If you use Canvas to satisfy the first day attendance requirement, please note that you still need to report your first day non-attendance drops as directed below. Methods for reporting and processing non-attendance drops: 1. Faculty ? For now, please continue to go to the following link for instructions and screen shots: How To Use the Attendance Roster Tool. 2. Staff ? For now, please continue to go to the following link for instructions and screen shots: How To Use the Attendance Roster Tool. 3. Email -- Send a message to registrar at admin.fsu.edu. Please include the student's name, EMPLID, the course prefix and number and the class section number. Staff will be monitoring this email closely and will be processing drops up until midnight on the 4th day of classes (Thursday, 09 January 2025). 4. myFSU Mobile -- Check and submit first-day attendance via the mobile version of Faculty Center. Simply download the myFSU Mobile app from the iTunes App Store or Google Play and follow these instructions (for now): How to Submit First Day Attendance via myFSU Mobile. 5th Day Classes and Non-attendance Drops: Once drop/add closes on Thursday, 09 January 2025, faculty will still be able to use the attendance tool for their Friday (10 January) classes. Please take attendance in any class that meets for the first time on Friday, 10 January 2025. Additional Information We are no longer processing administrative cancellation requests on the fifth day of classes. Students that need to drop all of their classes will need to be directed to the Withdrawal Services Office. In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Greetings Artists! Coming to you from the School of Dance, we are artists working with technology and we will be offering a Special Topics Course for spring 2025: EDIT LABS. This will be a once-a-week meeting time to support student tech projects, foster new ideas that are brewing, and a place to exchange knowledge in the areas of performance, music, and movement intersecting with technology. Please see the course description below and email us ASAP if you are interested. Make sure to copy Jeffrey Bray, our Academic Program Manager, and he can get you registered. Also take a moment to tell us a little about your interests, desires, and goals. EDIT LABS Rooted in the philosophy that learning happens from the inside out (not from external forces), this workshop-style laboratory will focus on experimentation, process, and risk-taking. EDIT, which stands for Embodied Design in Technology, is about redefining traditional forms in dance, music, and visual art to forge new pathways in emerging technologies and cultural expression. What will this course look like? The group will meet once a week where new skills are introduced (in media design, audio and video editing, and projection design), guest artists will be invited to speak about their work, and students will share their ideas in progress. The semester will culminate in a showing of ?where we are now?, with emphasis on idea development and artistic evolution. Who might be interested? Undergraduate or graduate students who want to integrate technology into an embodied practice, students exploring projection or sound design, or students wanting to finally put that film or music composition into action! Course credit: 1-2 variable Time: Wednesdays 3:30-4:50 PM Location: Tech Studio/Black Box Co-taught by Farai and Tiffany Check out the attached photos of the different audio and image devices that we'll be using to interface with processing and editing software (Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, Isadora, Q-Lab). The FAB Gallery | 236 Fine Arts Building | 530 W. Call Street Exhibition Text: The tapestry of life intertwines identities, places, history, and discourse, weaving an image that traces the ever-changing boundaries of self and others. In Tracing Boundaries, artists engage dialectics between bodies, materials, and places to amplify sensitivity to, and a sense of responsibility for, issues ranging from environmentalism to consumerism, multiculturalism, and more. The photographs in this exhibition are made and displayed with various experimental techniques, morphing into tangible three-dimensional objects flowing in space, echoing alternative approaches in contemporary photographic practices. In Tracing Boundaries, the act of belonging is a socially and politically engaged practice. The artists invite us to cultivate a deeper connection with the various nexuses of identities and dwellings we inhabit. This exhibition will present student work from Materials and Methods: The Advanced Photography Workshop course. This course will be offered again in Fall 2025.
