Message-ID: Announcing This Year?s Department of Art Student Awards Now happening in Fall 2022! Dear Students, The FSU Department of Art announces the 2022-2023 Department of Art Student Awards. These awards recognize the strength of our students and that means YOU! The Department of Art gives a number of awards to Studio Art students whose work demonstrates exceptional achievement. Awards range from $300 to $1000. With a strong application, you have a great chance of being selected! All awards are applied to your Financial Aid package. If you have questions about how the award would be applied in your specific case, please contact Financial Aid directly. All BA, BFA & MFA Studio Art students in good academic standing enrolled Fall 2022 ? Spring 2023 are eligible to apply. Students selected for awards should see awards funding applied to their FSU account early in the Spring 2023 semester. Mark your calendar with these IMPORTANT DATES: Application opens: Tuesday, November 1 Application deadline: Friday, November 11 at 11:59 pm APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: To apply, go to https://fsu.academicworks.com/ After login, fill out the General Application first, and then select College of Fine Arts/Dept of Art Application and complete the art portion as outlined below. Both parts of the application must be completed to be considered for an award. Preparing Your Art Award Application ? Make It Great! Here?s How: 1. Develop a concise yet compelling artist?s statement between 150 and 300 words in length. Start with a brief biographical statement, followed by a description of the ideas that drive your work. SPECIAL NOTE for Undergraduates: If you wish to be considered for an Ann Kirn Scholarship (a $1000 award limited to undergraduate students), you must include a thoughtful description of the role that design plays in your studio practice. 2. Select the five (5) to eight (8) images that best represent your studio work. Formatting your images: Be sure that your images are photographed well and cropped as needed. File sizes should be less than 2MB and either jpg or png. A video will be considered as one image. Submit your video to Vimeo or YouTube and provide a link within your application. Still images should be in a square format: To get your images into a square format, open the image in Photoshop. Go to Image/Image Size and size the image to 1080 pixels on the longest edge at 72dpi. Then, go to Image/Canvas Size, and make the width and height 1080 pixels x 1080 pixels and choose the canvas extension color as black or white (or choose a color). Keep the anchor dot in the center. Choosing your images: A balance between breadth and depth is ideal. If no two images are related in any way, your submission can appear unfocused. If all of the images are extremely similar, you can come across as short on imagination. Most importantly, be sure all of the images presented are your very best. It is better to submit six great images than to submit six great ones and two weak ones. 3. Write a brief description of each image and provide the title, size, medium, and date completed. This is a great opportunity to build on the general comments from your Artist?s Statement through specific information about each image. 4. Additional Scholarship & Practice, Awards, Volunteering, and Leadership If you would like the faculty to know about any additional achievements you have had recently, please list them here. These could include: 1. Additional scholarship and practice, such as an artist residency, community project, etc. 2. Specific awards you have received (list the name of the award and date) 3. Volunteer hours (list the particular volunteer activity and the approximate number of hours) 4. Leadership roles you have taken on (such as a leadership role in a student organization) SPECIAL NOTE: The application as a whole may evolve over several days and is likely to take many hours to complete. Putting the necessary time and thought into it will greatly improve your chances of success. Furthermore, once you have laid the groundwork with this application, you will be better prepared for future applications for awards on or off campus. Sample applications and tips for writing your artist statement are posted on the department website: https://art.fsu.edu/opportunities/scholarships-grants/department-of-art-student-awards/ Questions? The goal of these talks is to provide art students with insights, inspiration, and constructive advice for their own career paths. For this talk, our focus is on collaboration. Our speakers will share insights about their work as collaborators ? artist-to-artist, at work, and in the community. The panelists will speak for about an hour, followed by a Q & A session. With an exuberant style that champions the hand made and the intuitive, MILAGROS energizes public spaces with effervescent patterns that obliterate the seams between structures and highlight the unique attributes of the surrounding architecture. Working to reinforce individual strength through collaboration, MILAGROS operates according to the belief that mutual respect and trust allow for a free environment of evolving creation. The spirit of playful spontaneity MILAGROS brings to their work results in community-based projects that create spaces for positive connections. Madison Hayes Madison graduated from Florida State University (FSU) in the Summer of 2021 with a dual degree in Art History and Studio Art with Honors. During her studies at FSU, she held internships at the Galleria Degli Uffizi, FSU?s MoFA, 621 Gallery, and the Norton Museum of Art. As of this past August, Madison has completed her Masters in Art & Museum Studies from Georgetown University. While living in DC, she has held positions as the Social Media Manager for the Smithsonian Center of Folklife and Cultural Heritage and interned with the National Women?s History Museum. She is currently serving as the Marketing Specialist for the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. Ashton Langrick During her time in the B.A. program, Ashton discovered her love of museums and arts management through her participation in FSU's theatre management courses and the museum studies minor. With this new career perspective, Ashton continued her studies by attending the Art & Museum Studies M.A. program at Georgetown University where she gained specialized training in museum education, collections management, curation, and exposure to auction-housing and international art law. Having completed her M.A., Ashton went on to work for the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum, working in archival and collections management capacities. Now Ashton is happy to report that she has been appointed to a senior leadership position at the Sangre de Cristo Arts & Conference Center in Pueblo, Colorado as the Director of Education and Programs. She reports that many of the skills and experiences that she gained through FSU's courses, programs, events, and internships prepared her for her future successes. She would like to thank the faculty, staff, and community for providing her with such a positive and life-changing experience, and for continuing to be a supportive community who welcomes alumni involvement post-graduation. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
