Actually, it was settled by our dean and dept. chairs. It was determined that our hands are tied if we determine communication needs of our own students because we cannot treat them AND evaluate them. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:#1f497d"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:#1f497d">Students should meet with staff in the Office of Student Disabilities to receive accommodations, if needed. So the students MUST self-identify. The worst case scenario is having to grade/evaluate a student the faculty has determined has a disability, but the student has not addressed the need for accommodations with OSD. We cannot casually make accommodations without the required documentation initiated by the students. If we casually address disabilities, it can be viewed as drawing attention to the student’s disability which may affect evaluation/grading, especially if there are problems.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:#1f497d"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:#1f497d">We did determine Audiology can address Speech students’ hearing needs and Speech can address Audiology students’ speech needs.
