Dear FSU Environmental Law Certificate Students,

If you are interested in working for a federal agency in D.C. or another major city during your 2L summer, or if you are thinking ahead about employment opportunities after graduation, we encourage you to apply for one or more 2022 summer
internships with a federal natural resource agency, such as the EPA, the Department of Justice, the Army Corps of Engineers, and many others. These internships provide valuable work experience and potential post-graduation employment opportunities, as well
as exposure and contacts to other employers in the D.C. area and other major cities.

Today, I write to let you know about approaching deadlines to apply for spring, summer, and fall clerkships with the U.S. Department of Justice – Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD).

ENRD handles environmental and natural resources litigation on behalf of the United States. The Division is organized into nine litigating sections and one Executive Office. The Executive Office provides administrative support to ENRD including
financial management, human resources, security, technology, and litigation support. The Division protects the Nation’s natural resources and handles cases related to the rights and resources of federally recognized Indian Tribes. It works to improve public
health and provide other benefits to the American people through the reduction of pollution.

Law clerks assist ENRD’s trial attorneys in litigating cases in federal district and appellate court and advising the Assistant Attorney General on environmental legal and policy questions. Responsibilities typically include conducting
legal research, assisting the discovery and drafting pleadings, discovery requests, motions and legal memoranda dealing with a variety of federal environmental and natural resource issues.
