 ide light refreshments.\n\nWhat is this talk about?\n\nMicroglia are the b
 rain’s resident immune cells and play an important role in maintaining b
 rain health. They are also increasingly implicated in Alzheimer’s diseas
 e\, but how they communicate with other brain cells and influence neurodeg
 eneration remains poorly understood.\n\nIn this study\, we use human stem-
 cell-derived brain organoids (“mini-brain” models) to investigate inte
 ractions between microglia and neural cells in Alzheimer’s disease. We f
 ocus on extracellular vesicles\, tiny particles released by cells that car
 ry molecular signals to other cells. Using brain organoids and microglia d
 erived from healthy individuals and people with genetic risk factors for A
 lzheimer’s disease\, we examine how these vesicles affect inflammation\,
  metabolism\, and neural degeneration.\n\nOur findings suggest that extrac
 ellular vesicles from healthy microglia and microglia-containing brain org
 anoids can regulate pathways related to inflammation\, Alzheimer’s patho
 logy\, and cellular metabolism\, offering new insights into brain immune-c
 ell communication and potential approaches to neuroprotection.\n\nSpeaker 
 Bio\n\nDr. Yan Li is the Simon Ostrach Professor of Engineering and Profes
 sor of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at the FAMU-FSU College of Engi
 neering. Her research focuses on stem cell engineering\, tissue engineerin
 g\, biomaterials\, and bioprocessing\, with particular interests in human 
 pluripotent stem cells\, brain organoids\, and extracellular vesicles. Her
  recent work explores how these technologies can be used to better underst
 and and develop potential treatments for neurological conditions\, includi
 ng Alzheimer’s disease and stroke. Dr. Li is a Fellow of the American In
 stitute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) and a recipient of 
 the NSF CAREER Award.\n\n
