<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">The extensive literature on social integration shows that older adults who interact with a wide array of social
partners live longer with better cognitive, physical and emotional health. The benefits of close and intimate social partners (e.g., spouse, child, friend) also have been widely investigated, but we know little about less close relationships (e.g., neighbor,
religious community, acquaintance, service provider). This talk will describe multiple ways in which "weaker" ties contribute to well-being.</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Fingerman studies adult development and aging and directs the Aging Network (an interdisciplinary group of faculty
and graduate students who study aging) and the Graduate Portfolio in Aging and Health. Her research has asked how relationships with family members, friends and acquaintances change from young adulthood to old age, with particular attention to emotional qualities
of ties and support exchanges.</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
