Dear FDP, We are working to improve the NIH Grants and Funding website experience and are looking for real users representing diverse perspectives to test planned site changes to ensure we're moving in the right direction. We'd love your help in identifying potential testers who might be willing to spend just a few minutes to help us ensure that NIH's recipient community can find funding information as efficiently as possible. While we are interested in all perspectives (experienced users, administrators at all levels, PIs, trainees, etc.), we are particularly interested in those new to the NIH grants process and from institutions who have less NIH funding. We are aiming to include approximately 50 participants in our first phase of user testing, with additional phases planned. We would appreciate your help in identifying people at your institution who may be willing to serve as testers and sharing this opportunity them. The tests are virtual and should take no more than 15 minutes. Please have individuals interested in participating provide us their contact information using this link by Sept 8, 2023. Note that capacity is limited, so we may not be able to immediately accommodate everyone who expresses interest. Thank you for considering this opportunity and sharing it with others. Feedback from you and your colleagues is invaluable as we continue to improve our resources. Please reach out to me with any questions and keep your eyes out for exciting updates to the Grants and Funding website! Equity Collaborative Cohort ACL has awarded approximately $3.6 million in combined funding to continue the work of the Older Adults? Equity Collaborative (OAEC). Established in 2020, the OAEC is a group of national Minority Aging Technical Assistance and Resource Centers (TARCs) that each focus on serving a unique community. Together, they work to ensure access and equity across aging services programs by providing technical assistance to the aging services network. To promote and support collaboration, coordination, and cross-cutting efforts among the OAEC organizations, ACL also funds a coordinating center. The new grantee cohort of five TARCs and the coordinating center is funded for three years, from September 1, 2023 to August 31, 2026. 2023-2026 OAEC Grantees * National Caucus and Center on Black Aging, Inc. * National Hispanic Council on Aging * The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois * National Indian Council on Aging * Services and Advocacy for LGBTQ+ Elders, Inc (SAGE) * The New York Academy of Medicine (coordinating center) Older adults and the family caregivers who support them are uniquely diverse ? ethnically, racially, and culturally ? and face additional challenges as they age. They may face many challenges, including poverty, inadequate housing, social isolation, a lack of culturally competent care, and limited linguistically appropriate services. The OAEC will work to design and deliver training, technical assistance, and tools to improve access, consistency, quality, and sustainability of aging services that support diverse older adults. The prevalence of hearing loss increases with advancing age. A cochlear implant (CI) is typically prescribed to treat individuals with severe to profound hearing loss when hearing aids do not provide adequate benefit. You can watch his presentation via Zoom at https://fsu.zoom.us/j/93088181053 Assistant Professor of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, Dr. Liu will take questions from the audience after his talk. Dr. Liu tells us that myocardial infarction (MI) and strokes remain the leading causes of death in the modern world. This can stem from a clot forming in a narrowed artery and obstructing blood flow ? a process called occlusive high-shear thrombosis. Current anti-thrombotic therapies, such as Aspirin for example, which target the blood biochemistry, remain largely ineffective while also leading to excessive bleeding risks. Being able to understand how acute MI and strokes lead to ischemia or fatality (~25%) and eventually developing novel preventive drugs plays a significant role in successful longevity. Recent studies have shown definitive results suggesting high-shear thrombosis is primarily controlled by a biophysical aggregation of cells and proteins mediated by high-shear flows, in contrast to stasis required for ?textbook? blood clotting. In his seminar, Dr. Liu will present how they drive multi-resolution understanding of this flow-mediated clotting process at concurrent molecular, cellular and continuum scales using multiscale computational modeling (in silico) combined with thrombosis-on-a-chip devices. He will also discuss how novel treatment can be inspired and developed from the unconventional biophysics predicted by their in silico and in vitro models, and how their in vitro models could be utilized for drug screening and potentially point-of-care diagnostics with minimal amount of blood draw. This can stem from a clot forming in a narrowed artery and obstructing blood flow - a process called occlusive high-shear thrombosis. Recent studies have shown definitive results suggesting high-shear thrombosis is primarily controlled by a biophysical aggregation of cells and proteins mediated by high-shear flows, in contrast to stasis required for "textbook" blood clotting.
